Here is my story.... Blew a hose on my power steering that was pretty hard to get to. I had to drive the car without fluid in the PS for a couple of weeks. Fixed the hose last night. Jacked up the front wheels and refilled the PS. Heard the fluid hit the pump and started turning the wheels from side to side to try and get all the air out of the system. Noticed the wheels shaking like crazy if I turned close to either stop in either direction. Also noticed the fluid being really foamy. Any ideas on how to get my PS back to acting normal. All ideas are welcome.

It sounds like it just has alot of air in the system. It should eventually work out with normal driving. Just keep checking the fluid. You might have to add some every now then until all the air works out.

this is happening with my winter beater. Was it air in the system? Did you figure it out? I'd rather not put a new P/S pump in if I don't have to.

are you following the proper bleeding procedures? with the car jacked up and ENGINE OFF - SLOWLY turn the wheel all the way to the left. hold for about 10-15 seconds. then SLOWLY turn all the way to the right. hold again. repeat 4-6 times. it takes long and it's really boring but that's what you gotta do. if it's foaming you're doing it too fast.

i think after that you start the car and repeat with the engine running. be sure to watch the level in the reservoir - don't let it drop or you'll hafta start over.

that's how i did it after replacing my pump and had no problems.
