So snow really sucks and I cant control my car at all and I refuse to drive until the roads get a little better which puts me in a bit of a dilemma. But I was thinking how about ABS? the GSX came with ABS didnt it? I would like to swap this in, would it help with the snow? Is it worth it or does our car suck all together in the snow no matter what.. Because lately I been thinking.. The AWD Turbo'd Eclipse is sounding really good about now.

its really not worth it to try and convert to ABS. some people who really drive hard actually disconect the ABS. there is quite a bit of electrinic work involved plus you have to get new hubs that have the abs teeth and speed sensor. as long as you dont stand on the breaks every time you want to stop, its really not worth it for the few days where it gets really bad out. imo though. i looked into this last year when Nebraska had a really bad winter, and it just wasen't worth it.

I have never once had problems in snow with my rs. What kind of tires do you have on there right now? Tires make a huge difference.

i have manual brakes with metal pads and cross drilled and slotted rotors. I have normal whack ass tires on my stock 14" rims. The only extra thing i do is take out a lil air so i have a lil more of a grip on the road.

You just need to learn your car....best way to do it is to fuck around in a parking lot or something...put it through all the situations you may encounter on the road and react accordingly. Thats how i learned just about everything i know about driving really. Especially how to pull a bad ass ebrake :thumbsup

ABS is a crutch to some people...and i personally hate it. To each their own, but i suggest just learning your car.

The ABS system on the GS (optional), GST(optional), and GSX(Standard) kind of sucks. It makes about 2 pulses a second, so you get a FLUB FLUB FLUB FLUB LURCH feel to it. Sounds like you're going to rip a wheel off. Newer cars have more like 30 pulses a second, which is a nice steady whirr and makes people more comfortable with smashing on the brakes like a clumsy oaf.

If you want good snow traction, get snow tires, and practice your braking skills.

Found a parking lot today and started to intentionally throw my car out of control and in turns. This is my first year driving in the snow so I decided to give myself a training course. Figured I'd put my car in some fucked up situations and see if I could get it under control.. Success! Also my tires are 16" Yokohama Avid H4s the tread is pretty shot on them probably about 50% in front 25% back, so naturally my ass doesnt grip and flys out everytime i go to turn, I dont bother hitting the breaks now, I'll just romp the gas and drift into it. But does our ABS really suck?

our abs is kinda dinosaurish IMO. I just don't like abs...period. I have driven on performance tires so bald that the belts showed...although its argued that the metal gave me some tread. They still made it through two winters. Practice makes perfect...just avoid curbing and telephone poles, not that i would know ;)

Just pump your brakes really fast and its better than our old ABS system. The money you'd spend on the ABS would be better put towards a winter beater.

In all fairness, the GSX's ABS is 4 channel, which is light years better than the FWD's optional ABS, which is only 3 channels.

I removed my ABS, and loved the improvement in every way, including pedal feel.

Do yourself a favour, and don't install it.
