26171, opinions on big brake kits + where to buy
Posted by siueclipse, Jan-19-05 03:32 PM
Anyone have comments and suggestions on big brake kits and where to find good prices for them? Ive been looking at Baer big brakes.. 13" rotor, 2 or 4 piston calipers. Any thoughts?

Well, if I want to pay on the high side, I would get some Wilwood's from TCE. I have seen some Baer kits from $650-$800 tho, and I am thinking that would be the route I take unless I find some money somewhere.

gsx upgrade is all you need...big brakes are a waste of money...they look nice though. Unless you have tires made of superglue, i would not bother wasting the hundreds that a big brake kit would cost you.

I agree with Frank /\/\/\/\, but I also think that with 19's the brakes need some attending to beacuse they look too small.

yeah, the main reason for going with a big brake kit is because i have like 5 inches of nothing in my wheels. lol

Ive been looking at the baer kit from machv.com.. not bad for the price.

aesthetically, big brakes are pimp...but i'll pass if it comes to me actually stopping. I know that jamesman (i think) had the wilwoods and he loved em, and said they stopped like no other. But i feel you could do the same with a gsx upgrade and some good pads n rotors. They still use the stock brakes on very low quarter et, and high hp dsm's. So i don't see why you couldn't use em in a 300 whp, high 13 sec 1/4 n/a :p

If you're going for looks alone, the 12.5" GSX rotor upgrade from AEM is the cheapest by far.

The TCE Wilwood kit is 13" and performs wonderfully.

Best performance (you'll never need it unless you have 300hp and road race on a track regularly) for eclipses are the StopTech.

Read the sticky in this forum, it has all this information and more. That's why its a sticky.

I had the TCE 13" kit on my car. Outstanding setup.

ive decided on the brake kit from machv.com - the baer track system.

it seems to be the best product for the price and it comes with a lot of stuff.

i had the AEM's and i would recommend them. i say HAD b/c i had to ditch the rotors when they started giving me really bad vibration under braking. it felt like the car was falling apart... the whole concept of the AEM big brake kit is kinda dumb. big ass rotors with stock calipers and a metal bracket to space them farther out from the hub to accomodate the larger rotors. because of this the curvature of the pads do not match the rotor (the pads were intended for a rotor of much smaller diameter). as a result the pads over-hang off the edge of the rotor.

save up for a real system (stoptech, brembo, wilwood, etc) or just upgrade to GSX calipers if you're want the best bang for your buck.
