I started to change my passenger side axle in my 98 gs-t, I got the axle nut off but the axle is frozen into the hub. I took it to a machine shop and they applied 27 tons and heat to it and it still wont budge. Im assuming Ill have to buy new parts. I already have the axle, do i just need a steering knuckle and hub? anything else i need or any other ways to get this SOB out?

what i have done in that situation is turn the bearing front side up so you can soak pb blaster and let it seep into it. There is a puller you can buy from snap on that i use to force it out. I have never had one that i havent been able to get out.

If you have to replace everything i would say you need the axle, bearing, and spindle.

yeah, if you are going to replace the axle also I'd say PB blaster and a big ass hammer.

I've never had that problem, mine just slide right out.

i did lots of PB and a sludge hammer and it didnt budge lol.

See if you can find some Drummond Open-'N-Shut, I have some, but it's old as hell and I've never seen it in stores... that stuff kicks ASS... I've been on the one can for YEARS now and use it all of the time. Frozen bolts and nuts and (possibly axles), definitely stuck rotors come off with that and a "little" convincing.

Be careful. If you hit that axle real hard and you don't have the axle nut at least on there a few turns, the threads at the end can mushroom and you will NEVER get the axle nut back on again.

nut on or not...dont ever hit an axle. i mushroomed a nut and axle and the nut was all the way on so it was flush. I had to cut the threads portion of the axle off rendering the outer CV useless till i got another one and slipped it onto the axleshaft. I bought the puller and that is the only way i will remove one.
