25774, Rear Strut Shafts Comes 4" Above Mount
Posted by xEclipsE RaceRx, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
I must be assembling the rear wrong, because I bought some used KYB AGXs off a guy here on 2gnt that got a mechanic to test them out to make sure they werent blown and the mechanic said they were good. So he sends them too me and I push the shaft in about a inch to see if it would come back up on its own and both did, one of them was very slow to come up but it did. Anyways so I assembled them on some sportline springs and when I put on the spring then the mount on the spring the shaft would stay like 2" above the mount. Like if I screwed the nut all the way down to the bottom of the thread there would still be like an inch left and so much play. There was no tension on the spring. My friend gave me the sportlines so i was like maybe they are just fucked up so I put my stock springs on which eliminated the gap.

So I go to install the kybs and stock springs in the back and get it all done go for a drive and its still clinking around hard. I pop my hatch and saw that the shaft was like 4" above the mount. And the rear is really bouncy. I dont know if the struts are blown or did i assemble something wrong? Any help

yea the strut shaft is coming above the mount

I think the order I put things on the strut was, first I put the spring on, then the bumpstop, then some black piece with a metal shaft of its own coming out one side, then the spring cusionioning ring, then the mount, then the red polyurethane mount then the washer then tightened the nut. Anything missing?

Sounds like you forgot to put the dust boot on. It has a metal plate that keeps the strut from going past the hat.

I had that same problem when that plate failed on my dust boot. I took the mounting plate off and used a washer about 3 inches in diameter that fit perfect on the shaft and sits on the catch lip of it. Then re assembled it and works fine. I might be able to get you some pics actually today because it stopped raining and I need to put my stock springs back in and finish welding my exaust if I do I'll post'em for ya .
