My friend wants to sell me his set up...hes not to sure what brand the coilovers are but they struts are KYB AGX's. he wants 150 for them which i think is a pretty good deal and all, but how extensive would the installation of these be? and with this set up (and a front strut bad) would i still need any kind of engine dampener or motor mounts to keep from breaking shit on a hard launch?

the AGX shocks were not designed to be used with the slip style coilovers. however, they can be modified to accept the sleeve very easily. typically, the spring sits on a 'perch' on the shock, this perch must be removed in order to use a skunk 2 or ground control style slip over shock style coilover. the best way to do this ive found is just remove the strut assembly, turn the shock upside down and tap the outside edges of the perch until it comes free.

and no, you dont 'need' motor mounts or other braces to not 'break something' on hard launches, however a solid front from AFX elimates wheel hop and another alternative is prothane/energy suspension motor mount inserts. you can get the afx solid front from howellautomotive.com and the bushings from summitracing.com

well he was using them on his eclispe for a couple months and he never dis-assembled them or anything. theyre just sittin in his garage...so im sure if they'll work on his car, they'll work on mine??

yea, they will work.....you'll notice that you wont be able to drop the car very far though and the ride quality will be very bumpy because of the less play in the coil

i like my bumpy ride.

i also love 50 mph corners.

KYB struts don't have that much room for travel do they? Lowering the car too much would run the risk of bottoming out the strut right? I heard that KYB changed thier design over the last few years but how much I don't know. Tokikos or Konis would be a much better choice for a lowered car.
