i have searched and not found what i was looking for. i want to know what you guys are torquing your axles to. my chilton's manual says 192 ft pounds which seems a little excessive to me (??) i don't want to strip them out and secondly, i don't have a torque wrench that goes that high. mine only goes to 100 pounds. my wheels rattle when i step on the brakes and i think that this may be the cause. i torqued them to 75 pounds the last time i did them. gimme some input fellas...chris

The factory torque spec for the axle nuts are 145-188 ft.lbs.

This wouldn't cause your wheel to vibrate under braking. Your rotors are probably distorted ("warped"). Check your lug nuts, they should be torqued to 80 ft. lbs. for the stock rims, 85 ft. lbs. for aftermarket aluminum alloy rims.

He's right. The only thing that nut does is hold the axle to the hub. The hub is supported in other places by the rest of the suspension. Check your ball joints, lug torque, blah, blah, blah.

The axle nut, and the torque on it, holds the wheel bearing together. This is why you never roll a car around with no axles in it.. the wheel bearing will come apart.

Oh, then I take back what I said about it not mattering. I didn't know you weren't suppose to roll it.
