25304, My right rear side makes a clinking noise!!!!
Posted by suburbanstyles, Sep-30-04 07:59 AM
I just recently got new control arms installed into my right rear side. Now whenever I hit a small pothole or bump, it sounds like a clinking noise. It sounds alot like a screw coming more and more loose or something. Anyone have a clue what it is? Someone said it could be the shock.

could be the camcentric bolt wasn't torqued and is coming loose, but your alignment would be all of the place. if the cam bolt is loose it can easily slip around in the slotted hole in the crossmember. I think that is really unlikely. To change the rear toe control arms out nothing else has to be removed other than the wheel, I know this all to well. it is most likely a new symptom, try shaking the wheel in and out on the car and seee if it'll make the noise. I wonder if the new arm could be defective???

also did you see this one???

Well, my sway is missing too, I got a new one, and just haven't had the time to install it. Some guys checked it out and said that a bolt or something is loose in there, nothing serious, but it'll make that noise. Specifically what is a sway bar for?

Yes... Technical term is Body-Roll. Keeps your car on the ground better. Works in conjunction with the other suspension components. Do you see any sign s of wear? Obvious deterioration of bushings? A good visual can sometimes be all you need in diagnosing a problem and is a damn sight better than paying for part after part on the hit and miss theory!

If you are missing an endlink or two, there is a lot of potential for clunking.
