ok i just dont understand. i see alot of people with 205 width like a 205-55-16. well i understand that some rims won't hold a wide tire but i think most of the rims we are buying can. so why wouldn't you want a wider tire to give you more traction? just a question.

Just because a Rim is capable of holding a certain width, does mean it is feasible. I run 16x7 rims and only a 205 tire. I could run a 225 if I wanted, but for cornering ability the 205 is a perfect fit. If you fully inflated 225 on a 7" rim the usable tread patch is not the full 225 because the tire flexes a bit so the bead will seat properly.

Just because a 225 or 235 fits on a narrower rim does not mean you are using all of the tread.

Well said!! I run 215/45-17 on a 17x7 rim. Just fine for me. If I step out to a wider tire, I will have to get a wider rim. It is all in the way the tire actually sits on a rim and how the sidewall is at rest on that rim. You could concievably put a 235 on that rim but the sidewall would be slightly pressed in. It is a tire better suited to a 7.5 rim. www.tirerack.com has a good tech section on tire and wheel in relation to each other and fitment on the car. Take a read.

Wider tires are nice but too wide and you might get wheel bite. Also you can look at www.tires.com to get an idea of what the limits are of your current rim sizes.

well said.. thank you. but how much traction are you guys getting? i got a 225 and i have great traction and no wheel rub. i find no problem. but maybe a 215 would be better.. who knows

I have 235/40/18 on 18x8 rims...they rub a bit, but I'm lowerd almost 2"...don't do that. :)

Butt-ton of traction on cornering with stock suspension. It feels like a 200% gain in handling. a few more mods to the suspension and I will be good to go. I would love to step up to like a 245 but somehow don't think that is possible. I will try someday. :thumbsup

When I talked to the guy about my g/f wheels he said that we could go with a 235/45/17 on her 7.5" wheel, but when I said that she would be lowered almost 3" he said that the 215/45/17 would be a better choice. Never had any problems with rubbing even over big bumps. So I think it would be possible for you to run a 225 with a 2" drop, but you may want to get stiffer struts so you don't have a problem when they compress?

i have 235/45/17ZR's on a 17x7" wheel. looking at the tire, they fit fine. no unusual wear yet, and i can corner like a snake.

The struts would not affect the compression as much as the springs would. Struts affect mainly the dampening.

On a side note, Taloniized is running H&R springs and I do not think he needs to swap those out for anything, except maybe some TEINs if he wants to spend that kind of money.

I'm getting the stock gs/gst 5 spoke wheels and on my current wheels i'm running 225/50/16. Has anyone run these tires on stock wheels, or has anyone seen it done? Would it be too meaty a tire for the 16x6 wheels? Thanks in advance for any info.

I think Blizare runs a 225 tire on those same rims.
I've got 225/50R16 on 8" wide rims. Looks completely badass and handles very nicely, no rubbing problems, but then again I'm not even lowered so ...

I used Kumho Ecsta 711's, which are 245/55/16 on my 16"X6.5" stock wheels. BTW, I had no drop at the time, and the only reason I used that wide of a tire was because they were free. They did fit and looked pretty good, but as others say, the extra width didn't make a difference on my contact patch.

I run a 245 on a 9in rim, but have a slightly wider offset. I haven't run into any problems yet. These tires and rims were originally on a Saleen Mustang.

I didn't want to spend that much money on Tien's so I just went with KYB GR-2.
