24909, Suspension gave out at the track, need help... Posted by Pyroman415, Aug-04-04 02:00 PM
I was at the track with my 98 eclipse gs-t, I was on my last run. I shifted into 2nd gear and then it felt like I blew a tire. I had minimal control over the car. When I pulled it off the track my tire was pigon tied with the top side in. We noticed that the bolt on the bottom of the A arm was missing. The shock came down on the CV boot and cracked it and this lead to alot of grease everywhere. I know I need to replace the boot, what else should I check for? Has anyone else replaced the boot before? I need some info on how to do it. I know there was a recall on the balljoint but that has already been replaced and so have the struts and shocks within the last 3000 miles. Here are the pics: http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/653389/7
The 1st picture is a picture of the nut that came off. When i shifted into 2nd it popped it off the assembly.
If anyone has anything that could help me it would be appreciated.

Looks like a balljoint failure to me.

I was thinking it all happened because that nut came off but i dont know too much about suspension. Anyone know how much that would cost to fix?

Does anyone know the name of the boot that cracked and what its covering? I thought it was the CV joint but now im thinking thats somewhere else. Its the boot thats right behind the rotor assembly.
