24037, brakes won't lock up at all! Posted by wite96gs, May-25-04 10:17 AM
so, the other day I went to an autocross driving school, and there was a part where you test your cars braking distance. The instructor who was in the car with me, told me to jab on the brakes as hard as I could to get the feel for when they are about to lock up. well, they didn't. I even let the instructor try, he couldn't get them to lock up either and he said my car was a road hazard(I nearly smacked him in the face for that remark). I think that my car stops real fast, faster than most any other car I've ever driven, but the instructor said I was nuts for driving it on the street like that. I have powerstop X-drilled rotors on front, stock rotors in back and AGX metal pads all around, and fresh fluid in the lines. I just replaced all that about 5 months ago, which makes me think these brakes should be perfectly fine. anybody else out there have this problem? or is it not a problem and I should tell the instructors to piss off??
what do you think???? TIA Don :cheers

Unless you have antilock brakes you should be able to lock them up no matter what upgrades you've done.
You're gonna feel really dumb if you realise you have antilock breaks :)

even antilocks should lock up...they jus kinda release and re-apply to simulate pumping the brakes. I dunno what to tell you about not being able to lock em up though...i have a x-drilled and slotted setup with stainless lines n all that...i should be able to let you know if mine lock up in a day or so. I am sure others on here could now though :p

make sure theres no leak in your brake booster. i use to have a civic, yea a civic but anyways, there was a major leak in the brake booster and the brakes don't lock up. also had to floor the pedal to stop the car. who needs brakes anyways? ;)

nope, no ABS here, I've already been asked that one many many times.
I will, however, look into the booster. Does anyone know if it is rebuildable or am I looking at buying a new one?
also, does anyone know of a good place to get steel braided flex lines? and if so, what would you say would be a reasonable price???
TIA, Don :beer

I am also running slotted and drilled and carbon kevlar pads in the front and ceramic in the rear. squeek like hell and no matter what i do to them the squeeking wont go away... im out doing the garbag trunks with my squeeky brakes.
