2391, 18" Rim/tire Setup Question Posted by HeDog, May-18-01 08:24 AM
Gee, this is something that hasn't been covered.
I'm going to be getting 18" rims and I was wondering if I could go with 8" on the width or would that be too wide. The tire size that I would get would be 225/40ZR18. I want my rims to be flush with the side of the car so that they match up as close as possible to the edge of the body and don't sink into the wheel well and look like a chick with a dress that's too big for her. But I also don't want to have the tires rub inside the well. I'm shootin' for a 2" drop, but if that means that there will be issues, I can compromise on the lowering amount and/or the wheel width. Anyone with 18's please let me know what width you've got as far as wheel width, lowering amount, and any issues that you've had and how you corrected them. Thanks.

mine are 19x8 and they fit just fine, so you can go with an 8 incher, hehe. but i think any wider and i would be hitting the upper control arms in the rear. rim width doesnt affect how far they are in or out of the fenders, thats all relative to the rims offset. get the right offset and you will be fine. with a 2" drop you will rub in the back but all you have to do is roll the fenders. i had my front lowered 5 inches on the 19s and it rubbed, but i took it back to only 4" drop and its fine, so you dont have to worry about a thing in front

What would the proper offset for 18x8's. Also I'm a little fuzzy on the rolling the fenders part. I've read posts but they really haven't explained how it's done other than people use baseball bats or hammers (yikes!). Is it the actual fender or is it inside the wheel well that gets rolled? Could you elaborate more on the rolling. Thanks.
