23896, Lower Table cost?
Posted by HeyG, May-17-04 01:45 PM
ok, i've done numerous searches on a number of sites regarding lower tables. It would appear that my passenger side table is slightly bent from a pothole incident last year destroying my previous rims.

After being to SATAN, they told me it was a brake toggling problem, well i went recently to my garage and they showed me the table and am now in need of a replacement. does ANYONE know how much it costs or how difficult it is to replace it?

My friend recently did both his front 2 tables on his BMW 328i so we're gonna try this out too. thx, any help would be great as usual.

In all my years, I have honestly never heard of any tables on a car except those little round ones that went into a hole in the floor on early conversion vans. Just what is a table imo?

a table is part of the suspension, the piece that keeps the wheel positioned precisely 'x' amount of inches from the side wheel well walls. It's shaped like an L.

unless I've picked up some wierd slang, i'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about...all my friends, shops in town, hell even Satan knew what it was (i'm not trying to insult you, i'm just reassuring myself that there is actually a piece called a table).

Bump?

That is the compression arm not called a table, no idea where yo got that name from. It is called a compression arm by the dealer, service manual, and most shops. I have never heard of any suspension arms called a table on beemers either.

That is an expensive arm and you will have no choice but to shell out some coin for it. the only other suggestion is to hunt a few junk yards.

then I'm really confused. the mechanic told me table, my friend purchased tables for his beemer....I even checked pricing at satan on the lower and upper tables....

all these people on different occasions refered to or knew of tables with no relation to eachother....and yes, there were pricings on "tables"....so does that mean there is a part or not? or is this slang?

ok, i've been trying to search pretty hard because I really do need to fix this. I think this "table" of mine is the control arm. I'm really not sure, does anyone have a pic of link to a pic so I can verify?

or for that matter, a pic of the underbody of a fwd dsm because I can't really just jeck mine high enough to just peer at it again.

i'm not so sure about it being the compression arm...but I'm gonna have to find out soon. the sound is driving me nuts.

which part are you refering too?

well I still have yet to find out what piece it is. I jsut replaced the lower arm , which helped a bit. the piece I'm refering to is located like 2 inches behind the damper fork running perpendicular to it. Like I said, it's shaped like an L and looks like it's stricly structural holding things in place.

I'm so lost, I'll end up going to Satan and ask them if anything.

worst comes to worst I'll try to take a pic of my car.

on a side note, anyone know if an alignment might solve a rubbing problem? because of my pot hole incident last season my passenger side wheel is pushed farther back than the driver side. That is what is causing the rubbing and a horrendous creaking/popping sound.

I would try an alignment to try to make driveablility easier until you can get it replaced. Is arm clearly bent or just suspected?

Send an email to pushin420a@aol.com....that is lee on this board, he has a parts car maybe he can help you with a better price.

it's suspected, but everything points to it. I believe it is bent from a visual analysis, but not in a twisted or completely warped shape.
