I just found out today, that I need both front wheel bearings replaced. They said they were rough, and slack.
So, I go to the parts shop and find out they are $300 a piece CDN!!!!
The garage said they could replace them for $700 CDN.
How difficult are they to replace? I would do it myself if I had a better idea of the difficulty of the job. I also have enough friends who can help out. One of the guys just fired up his 8 second Duster that he built himself for the first time this year, so maybe I'll ask him...
Just though it would be a good idea to weigh all my options.

i would investigate local junkyards and get them there.. will be much cheaper and should last a good while..

rears are easy, fronts are tougher. I did the rear myself but couldnt get the fronts off. Have a large breaker bar and a fat guy to jump on the end of it.

I would not reccomend using Used wheel bearings out of a junk yard! You won't have a clue as to how long they will last. They aren't too hard to replace, but don't use a pry bar! Use a slide hammer to loosen it up and then remove the upper control arm ball joint nut AFTER seperating the two. Leave the nut on at least three threads and use a pitman arm press to pop the two apart. Use the slide hammer to pop it the rest of the way off. That is also after the four bolts are removed. Cost? I paid $135 for the drivers side when I did it and it took me about 3 1/2 hours to get that done with a inner and outer tie rods and an alignment. I also had it in my shop. I hope that you are able to find a way to get the parts you need.

Fronts are easy if you have the puller to get the axle out if its frozen. as far as the bearings are concerned i have two fronts that have been rebuit by me. I guarentee them on a car that is not pushing 350+ hp for six months. They have been disassembled, cleaned and checks for wear, then greased and reassembled. Let me know if your interrested...50. each. if you want a pair i will do 110.00 shipped.

get a front end fork IMO...good shit dood.

The fronts are pretty easy, jus use a lil elbow grease and some PB blaster and you will be all good. I have mine out right now to replace the dust caps and to install poly motor mounts. Jus takes patience and time IMO. Good luck :thumbsup

I replaced my passenger one by myself in about 30-45 minutes. Not hard at all. I used a big friggin hammer to knock the old one out with. Not like I was worried about hurting it.

where in Canada are you? You can get them outside the dealership I am almost positive. Ive seen them for around $90 each. I can't remember where but I'll look it up.

I am about an hour west of Ottawa. The thing is, I went to a local parts shop here, and they want $300 each!! If I'm going to pay that, I may as well get satan to do it, then I know it's done right.

I think they have it for cheaper.. remember its the same part as the avenger/sebring so maybe try asking for that part if the mitsu/talon is more.

hopefully you don't have the situation I ran into, which was the axle had siezed to the wheel bearing. satan replaced both under warranty, but it would've cost me $800 just for the right front. heads up when you try to take it out yourself.

there is a special puller that snap on makes to aleviate that problem. I just bought on a few weeks ago just in case. Its build heavy enough to be beaten with a hammer, add a little heat from Oxy/acetelene and that axle will come out. my advise is to buy the puller though it is pricey i think i paid 180.00 for it.....but lets face it you will have it for the rest of your life.

I am sure matco or mac make one too but i am rather anal and only buy snap on.

autozone, napa, advnaced auto, and pep boys should all have htem too.

eh? good luck man.. with canadian winter I bet your axels are seized in the hub. If that ends up being the case then good luck getting it out. I had hell of a time getting that piece of shit off.

Front hubs are a dealer item only, atleast in canada. Napa lists a bearing for 90 bucks but its for the rear.

shop around with different dealers but 300 sounds about right. $700 sounds good for getting both of them done at a shop including parts. Trust me it is suppose to be an easy 45 minutes job but cuz of canadian weather (salt on the road) things are always siezed and rusted.

I lived in the northeast untill recently...i know the feeling...albeit, not as bad j00 all up in canuckistania, but i had alot of the same probs...hence why i am replacing everything i can in my suspension while it is torn apart.
