When you move the steering wheel back and forth *fast* is it suppose to make any smacking noises? I can't tell if it's the teeth in the rack and pinion smacking w/ the steering colum teeth, or if it's a bad tie rod.

check the ball joint on both of the tie rods, or lube up that part where it connects, mine was making a clunking sound and after some grease it went away
