2377, Ride Height..........
Posted by CluckeRMC, May-17-01 03:52 PM
Ok so heres one for ya. I think my car is lowered after looking at another RS up close but I am not positive. I am wondering how high these cars sit off the ground stock. My car only has about 3-4 inches of clearance between street and bottom of front bumper (which I've scraped many a time) so I'm just wondering if mine is lowered or not... I bought it used and not really sure, I cant see anything that stands out about the suspension (so maybe cut?) but dont know for sure. It seemed that the other RS (same year) had nearly 5-6 inches of clearance which I dont know for sure cause I dont cary a ruler around everywhere I go, but does anyone know or can measure what the ride height is of there stock 95-96 RS? I'd be much appreciative. Thanks guys!

Another thought to add to my suspicions that its lowered.. The front wheels appear to curve in at the bottom (camber). Not sure as I havent had it checked yet, but if it was lowered the wheels would do this correct? Also, I posted a while back that around right corners at higher speeds the car would jerk. Could this also be related to it being lowered and the camber being f'd up? Lemme know! Any comments would be helpful!

If your car is lowered, then so is mine. You can tell if its lowered just an inch if you cant put your fist in between the wheel well and the wheel...And by the looks of yours, I can fist it realllll gooood, lol.....Sorry about my nasty mind.

allright, well I'm still not sure. Those are 14's and also the other RS had more clearance I'm almost positive.. I just went out and looked a little better and i'm almost positive mine is lower, so unless he raised his up (which I highly highly doubt) i'd have to say its lowered or something is completely f'd up on it because for one I've had many people tell me the front tires lean out on the top and its visible and I would have to agree which most likely means the camber is f'd, also, when going over traintracks or large bumps I get loud popping noises from the front right suspension or something bottoming out.. I guess I'll have to bring a ruler and actually measure the difference tomorrow.. Its one of the managers here so hopefully he doesnt flip sh!t on me.. lol..

From the looks of that picture, your car is DEFINITELY STOCK height. It has way more gap than even just a one inch drop would give you. You might be slightly lower than another RS due to tire pressure, tire size, or maybe your shocks and springs have settled a bit over time. But seriously, I've seen stock RS's with 14's that had less gap than that. To me, it seems that you might be even slightly higher than most stock cars around here. Maybe it's just the picture, but I don't think its lowered at all.

Yeah I'm going with tricked/eclipse/804 your ride doesn't look lowered one bit from that picture. You look like you sit pretty high. You maybe lower if your springs have settled more or are getting old and sagging a bit. Which would go toward your bottoming out, the suspension can't keep the car from dropping too much. The manager at your work may have replaced his supension with some no name brand that pushes his car up a little higher or is at totally stock height while yours needs a little restoration. How many miles on your suspension? And as far as the train tracks go... SLOW DOWN!!! I take those things at like 10 or 15mph for the bad onesa around here.

The car only has 52000 on it. I would really hope the suspension wouldnt be worn out allready, I do plan to replace it soon anyways with some sport suspension but I guess that would explain it also, and yah, I need to upload the picture of the front of my car compared to the front of another so you can actually see the difference.. I dont know.. And I dont go fast over train tracks at all, If I hit train tracks doing 15 I guarantee it will make that loud popping noise I was talking about. I literally have to go 5-10 mph over them. So I dont know, I took it to Les Schwab and they couldnt find anything wrong, but something is messed up with the front suspension. It bottoms out very easy, I'm almost sure the front rides lower, it looks like the camber or toe adjustment is f'd up as the tires both lean in towards the car at the bottom and out at the top, something is definately not right even though they couldnt find anything.. So hell if I know.. Guess I'll just replace it and that will be the end of it, hopefully nothing horrible happens between now and then.

Ok I had 14 inch eagle alloys with the correct tire sizes (yuck 70 aspect ratio) and I remember that my car barely fit on the lift at school. The gap was monsterous but the car did was lower. When I upgraded to my GST rims (16 inch 55 aspect ratio) and my car would fit on the lift easily. So yeah your car is lower than an eclipse with 16 inchers. Heh when I got my springs and shox though I can look good and carve the corners up, 14 inch high profiles wheels don't do shit for cornering :P
