just wondering if the swaybars are supposed to have tension on them when the car is parked. i was checking around under the car and found that i can wiggle the bar a little, seems to me that with the car's suspension compressed those swaybars should be tight. thanks for any info.

Check if the rubber bushings, that mount the bar, are worn out, and replace as needed.

well, the bushings on the links and all look fine, i guess this is more of a question of swaybar theory. i would expect movement if i unloaded the suspension, but not when the tires are on the ground, this could be wrong. in my head, my only reference right now, i would hope the bar has tension on it when the car is sitting flat, not just when to hit a corner and lean the car over a little. doesn't make sense to me that there would be freeplay on the bar while driving straight. feel free to straighten me out on this.

Unevenly load the suspension by driving one of the tyres onto a brick or a 2X4, and you should get tension. The nature of a sway bar is to provide resistance when the two sides of the suspension (Left and Right) are meeting unequal compression. In other words, the sway bar only works when one wheel is higher (relative to the crossmember that the swaybar is bolted to) then the other.

When I Installed sway bars on my dads miata they were tight and didn't move. That was with the car in the air on four jack stands so there was no load on the suspension. A loose sway bar doesnt make sense to me.:shrug

Actually, I do suppose that it shouldn't be loose, per se. Just not under tension. If it has a lot of play, and your suspension is completely connected, then I would check the bushings in the brackets that bolt to the frame, and the endlinks. Energy and Prothane make sway bar polyurethane inserts. Check with RRE for more information. If one or both of the endlinks have failed, check your local friendly neighborhood Mitsubishi dealership (Chrysler will be more expensive, unless you are smoking the parts guy's pole).

hmm, no pole smoking here.(yes i would for boost) i'm sure it's fine, not loose enough to rattle or anything so i won't worry about it. thanks for all the info guys.
