Hey guys, I FINALLY picked up a pair of rear hub/knuckle assemblies to do my rear disc brake swap! Anyway, I need pads, rotors and SS brake lines. I want good pads, but nothing that will wear out in a month, same for the rotors, but slotted and drilles, or just slotted, but i don't want to spend a bunch of money. Any ideas where I can get good prices on this stuff?

I would get them from NAPA or a parts store. I do not suggest getting Wagener brand brake parts though. Bendix is better than OEM quality. Ask around at the local parts stores and find out what they sell. If you are not having much luck, email me or PM me, I can probably hook you up with cost prices on rotors and loaded calipers (caliper, pads, and caliper brackets).

As for lines, get the Stainless ones from RRE. http://www.roadraceengineering.com/eclbrakes.htm

Now, for everyone's benefit, you don't need the actual knuckle/hub assemblies to execute the rear disc brakes swap. You only need the dust shields, calipers, rotors and brake lines to do it.

Once you get it completed, I'm sure you'll be satisfied. I was amazed at the braking response once mine was completed.

Without the hub how do you have an emergency brake? That is something that I would not do without. Are you an auto?

I always took it as more of a parking brake considering if you yank that sucker above 30mph you're gonna have an emergency. I think there are measures to take in order to keep it in the write up. It's just that some people choose not to run that extra cable back through the floor and up under the carpet etc to the handle. :shrug

I took the whole hub assembly off my friends GST and it was just 4 bolts. The PITA part was the emergency brake, that took the longest. Now my car doesn't do a forward dive when I slam on the brakes. This mod is a must for folks who have GSX fronts and rear drums. The pedal feel is outstanding, they look alot better and when you pull the e-brake to do "drift" the the rear wheels will totally lock out..=)

I am not referring to the cable. THe e-brake/parking brake on a DSM is basically a mini-drum assembly inside the rear rotor. Small shoes press against the inside of the rotor to lock it up when you yank the lever. Therefore, without using a hub from an OE equipped DSM you can put the rotor on but there are no e-brake guts for a cable to even hook to...that is my point. Other vehicles on the road that have 4-wheel discs have lever actuated calipers that grab the rotor without the use of hydraulic pressure. I was wondering if the guy above that said that 'you can make it work' rigged something up. No OE rear disc hub = no parking/emergency brake is my point.

You wasted your money you should have researched before you bought anything. The hub and knuckle do not have anything to do with the parking brake assy. The dust shield house all patrking brack parts and assy. The hub part numbers are the same and so are the knuckle. I woulsd know i cut up a gs eclipse and i have an ESI. i did the conversion and i reused my knuckle and hub.

Dont believe me...then waste your money

^^^ CORRECT. I did the same conversion.

It's the dust shield assemblies that have the parking/emergency brake. NOT the hub!

The hubs are the same.

Sooooooo..........what you are telling me is that all you need for this conversion is: rotors, calipers, caliper brackets and brake lines.

No, I'm saying you ALSO need the dust shield/emergency drum assembly as well the above. It doesn't look like much, but it is essential.

You can convert the drum emergency brake lines as well. You just need to cut the dust shield's inlet hole a little to accomodate. You'll see when you get it though.

Is there a place that sells the dust shield/e-brake assembly? I would rather buy it new than hunt bone yards. Any place other than Satan?

Actually, I did my research and I did not waste my money, but thanks for the input. When I got to the junkyard, the car was already sitting on the ground and we only had about 30 mins to get the parts off the car. We figured the easiest way would be to take off the whole knuckle assembly than to dissassemble the whole thing. I know that the knuckle and hub are the same on my rs, but for convenience's sake, it made it a lot easier.

Thanks to everyone else about info on where to get some decent price rotors, pads and brake lines :thumbsup
