I know how to do disc brakes no problem, just from watching it be done so many times and I do them myself. Time has com to do the drums and I dont know where the fuck to begin. Is there a write up somewhere. Preferably with plenty and PLENTY of pics becaue a visual person. I will never get it if its just words. I dont even know what to ask for at autozone, i feel so stupid so dont flame me. I know discs = pads. Drums = shoes???

drums are a pain in the ass, you have to take pretty much everything under the drum cover apart, plus u really should get the drums turned. sorry this isnt all that helpful.

Drum brakes really are not THAT hard to do, just have to take your time, and only take apart ONE SIDE at a time, so you can reference the other side if you need to. You will need to get some special pliars. They are for drum brake springs. They are designed to make taking off and putting on the old/new springs more easily. You don't have to have the pliars, but I find them much easier to use. You basically get the drum off, take off the shoes, then take off the springs, and prob part of the e-brake linkage at the shoes. There are quite a few parts that need to come off, but this is why you should have the other side's drum off, but fully assembled, so you can reference that to help you get the parts back on right. Take your time, and pay close attention to how parts come off, and you will be all set. You will want to prob get new drums(if they can't be turned), new shoes, and ALWAYS get a new hardware kit. The kit comes with all the springs, adjusters, and misc parts you will need. Get a few cans of brake cleaner also. Grab a Chiltons manual, as that may help.

Yup. Actually, changing them is not that difficult. Just tell Autozone you want new shoes and a hardware kit. Then, just take all the springs off, install the shoes (they kinda just fit right into place) and put all the springs back on the way they came off. (easier said than done, because the springs are HELLA tight and very hard to stretch; I was using regular needle-nose pliers)

I just did mine two days ago, and while they appear to be perfectly perfect, NOW THEY MAKE A CLUNKING NOISE! I have no idea what it is. Also, they don't stop as well as they used to, even though I have adjusted them o where the wheel takes force to turn. It's odd.

I have decided to do a rear disk conversion soon.

the biggest PITA will be getting that fricken retaining clip that attaches the parking brake cable to one've the shoes... there's not really enough room on the shoe to get a good angle to slide it out an if you try pushing it usually just rotates around the pin. you'll see. that's the one part that made it take very long for me to changes the shoes. the rest is easy.

oh an i just used regular pliars.

BRU ce.. I have the exact problem (that damn noise) I took it to a shop to get it checked out. Of course they said that Nothing was wrong, BS..Imma just do the damn drum to disk conversion
