22348, tein or ground control? Posted by injendsm, Feb-09-04 06:30 AM
i was looking on www.horsepowerfreaks.com earlier at possible suspension setups for my car and have decided on getting one of the following two......either ground control coilovers with koni yellow shocks which would come out to about 869 bucks. or i could get tein basic coilovers with koni yellows for about 1183. thats just over a 300 dollar difference. ive heard great things about both coilovers and im just curious, would teins really be that much better than the ground control's or would the gc/koni setup be a good street setup?

From a personal experience level, I dont really like my GCs that much. Right now I have them setup with the AGXs, and its to stiff of a ride for me, even with the suspension on the softest settings. I would go personally with the Teins, spend the extra $300 because chances are youll regret it later, just my personal opinion though. :thumbsup

thats what i kind of figured. i dont think i have ever heard anything bad about tein, besides the fact that they are one of the premeir suspension companies. i just wanted to be sure that it was worth the extra 300 bux before i saved up and spent it. thanks for the help.

if you add the cost of GC's and AGX's or most shocks and spring combo's for that matter, you will find that there isn't to much of a difference between them and entry level coilovers.

You can get the Tein Basic Coilovers from Top End for $715 shipped.

The Tein SS's can be had for around $875 if you do some searching around.

definitely go with the Tein's. i've been searching around for quite some time now and i havent found a single bad mark about the teins. i'm sure you can mix and match a good suspension setup for maybe a little cheaper but personally i think going with something thats already proven to be a great move is worth the extra $$$. you might even want to consider going with the Tein SS :thumbsup

Dude. If your going to spend that much get the Tein SS coilover set. I got them for $900 and I love them. Ride height and struts are adjustible. I have them set at 10 in the front and 12 in the back, it's a bumpy ride, but I like it. At the track i can put them all up to 16 and stick to the track and get little-no weight transfer. Hell for $1300 you can get the type flex, they are the top of the line teins. I can't even imagine how nice those must be.

This might be dumb question but you don't need to by shocks/struts with a ture coilover system right? I thought they came with them.

The Tien basics are a true coilover, so you will NOT need to buy shocks/struts.
If you have the choice go with Tiens over the ground controls...

The coilover is built around a shock. So it is a shock. Look at the pics...

I can tell you this. The Tein FLEX with edfc, you will feel every bump on the road, but even at mid to high speeds, when my tires were new , I literally would try to throw the car through a turn and no skidding or rolling whatsoever. Sometimes even in the rain. It completly changes the handling of the car.
I wonder how Endless, JIC or Bilsteins are? :shrug
