Posted by Talon, May-10-01 04:13 AM
ok ok i know i have been told like sooo many times. where can i get the rear drum to disk conversion for 250 shipped if i talk to greg (is that correct) ???? please help i have a bad screatching in the rear drums when i brake and the pads are fine.... i think i heated them up too much and melted them. also what are better pads for the rotors than autozone pads that cost 15 for 2??? THEY SUCK...they burn too fast. i started to brake from 115 and man when i stopped shit was burning cause i smelled them bad... please help soon...my car sounds like a piece of shit when i stop. thanks

DeanoD I think we need to add contact info to the write up.

It's Dan Gill at http://www.allmitsubishi.com I don't know the number but it's on the site.

As far as pads a lot of people use Metal Masters. I think I'm going to go with EBC Green stuff possibly Minitec pads(I've heard good things about them) and either Powerslot slotted rotors or KVR crossdrilled rotors. when I do the conversion and SS line install. I have the parts for the conversion I just need the pads and rotors and the time to do it.

on the 2gnt.com main page. Any good name brand pad will work for the rear. I use KVR Performance carbon/kevlar rear brake pads. If you are constantly smoking the front brakes, you might want to consider upgrading to GSX front calipers and larger rotors. Crossdrilled are great for rapid cooling, but if you are on a budget, just get a used set of GSX factory rotors/calipers/front lines to go with the rear conversion kit. Have the rotors turned and install Porterfield R4S or Hawk HP+ pads on the front and KVR pads on the rear. You will never have to worry about stopping power and the cost will not "brake" the bank.

You can get Hawk and KVR parts drop shipped factory direct from S&A Motorsports 501-450-6333

Thanks Deano, I'm going to have to call S&A and check price on the KVR Cross Drilled I want to get. What are your thought on EBC pads? I hear they are very good and the lowest price I've found is $78 which isn't too bad. Any experience with them? Or recommendations on pads? I've decided on the KVR crossdrilled, I'm not set on pads though. Thanks

2238, Testing new KVR Performance rotors
Posted by DeanoD, May-12-01 02:03 PM
I have KVR crossdrilled/cad plated rotors. They start with Brembo blanks and go from there. I am getting a new set of KVR Performance(own house brand) crossdrilled/cad plated to test this autoX season. They have only released a few sets of these and I am looking forward to giving them a workout.

One thing to point out is that Hawk HP+ and Porterfield R4S pads will heat up the rotors to extreme temps if you drive prosolo on the street. If you get custom crossdrilled rotors, make sure they keep the drillings at least .2 inches from each other(this is measured from outer edge of drilling) or they may crack. If you are a maniac on the brakes, rapid cooling from crossdrilling will work well, but you need to let them cool between applications. The reason race cars use blank rotors is that they thrive on maintaining high rotor temps with abrasive pads. I really think if they used crossdrilled, they would crack massively.

BTW: I am a crossdrilling fan....if done correctly. I do not think slotted help much in autoX or street applications. I do not recommend slotted/crossdrilling together. It weakens the rotor and KVR does not recommend it either.

If you want to call to get more information, I will be working at the shop on Monday. 501-450-6333 We can also get powerstop, powerslot, new pacesetter drilled/slotted(yes it is true...not so sure about quality though) and a few other taiwan brands that are not good for anything but show. If you really want Powerstop or Powerslot, Summit beats our price by a few dollars.

2239, EBC pads
Posted by DeanoD, May-12-01 02:18 PM
I have no experience with them. I have heard good things about them when I was in Germany. They are big in Europe. I have also heard the Green Stuff pads work well. I figure they are probably close to Hawk HP and KVR Performance pads. These are both street carbon pads. They do not heat up as much R4S or HP+ pads. Carbotech also makes some great pads. If I was not going to autoX then I would buy the KVR performance carbon/kevlar front and rear pads. They dust fairly low, do not squeal, rotor friendly, resist fading until HIGH temps are reached, and we can get you a good deal on them with rotors...LOL

Well if you lucky you should go look at some auto dismantler places or if your really lucky like me find a junked up Eclipse or Talon and salvage the rear brakes. I got mine for 80 bucks, for the whole deal except the parking brake line, but I found a way to utilize the drum parking break line. The pads were hella not worn too! ^_^ well good luck in your quest for better breaking!
