21945, ball joints, need answer Posted by Eagle 5, Jan-16-04 02:49 AM
So my car makes this "wonderful noise" when barely turning the wheel and under noral driving. like screeching r grinding somewhat. the guy who worked on my car (changed t-belt and such) said it sounds like its my ball joints making the noise. my question, is there another recall on them? i had performed 2 years ago when i bougth my car. they said they were fine and did whatever. has there been one since? the noise is horrid and you can hear it whenever i turn the wheel. my car has 125,000 miles on it. i read somewhere it said you should change the ball joints at liek 60,000 miles. the only other idea i have is the bushings for my camber kit may need to be greased or something. should i just go ahead and pay the 360 (guy can get the 4 lower ball joints at this price since he works there) and have the 4 lower ones changed? what about the upper 2 ball joints? (note this includes both front sides)
also you cant get just the joint , you have to get the control arm, aof which there are three. two lower and 1 upper. the guy said he would change the lower ones for me, i just have to get the parts and he would get them at his cost.

The compression arm is a single whole assembly. The ball joint will not separate from this arm and it is a dealer only part. The cost about $250 per side. The compression arm is the curved arm that runs towards the rear of the car. I am not sure about the lateral control arm. I know that Napa usually carries those, but I don't know if the ball joint can be seperated from it. I think they are about $100 from Napa for each side.

Try spraying WD40 all over the ball joints and suspension components and see if the noise goes away.
