Hello, I recently bought new crossdrilled/slotted rotors where I wanted to change the pads and rotors on the front and rear of my 98 eclipse Gs Non Turbo. I have never done it before, is it hard to do? Can someone give me instructions on the installation as well as how long it should take>?

i changed mine in the dark so theyre not hard at all.

-remove wheel
-empty some fluid out of the reservoir for later (no more than 1/2 full)
-unfasten the two 19mm caliper retaining pins on the backside of the caliper
-lift away the caliper (DO NOT DISCONNECT BRAKE LINE, its a headahce you dont need or want)
-support the caliper with a peice of wire or something, dont let it hang from the brake line!
-remove the caliper support bracket on the back of the rotor (two bolts), remove the support from the rotor
- the rotor should now come off nicely, if it doesnt give it some DSm lovin with a rubber mallet, or you can screw 2 bolts into the rotor in the spare holes and it'll pull the rotor off the hub
-throw on the new rotor and caliper retaining bracket tighten retaining bolts to (65ft. lbs)----> thats both the caliper bolts and the caliper bracket bolts. (it also helps to screw on some lugs to hold the rotor there)

Now, brake pads = uber-simple

-clean brake piston caliper, use a c clamp to push the brake piston back so u can put it around the new thick pads
-install the new pads into the retaing clip with shims and spring clip
-install the caliper over the brakes
-tighten guide pin to 65ft. lbs

rotors come off easy? not on my car!!!!

one time one rotor took 3 hours to come off. torch, rubber mallot---> hammer --> bigger hammer ---> breaking rotor with really big hammer and big ass swing!

mine were rusted on pretty good

but yeah, it is easy, just be prepared to fight

What do these c-clamps look like? Are they universal?

if things're really rusted it might be a little hard putting on the new rotors. mine were like that. just use a dremel to take off some of the rust an stuff on the hub.

A clamp in the shape of a C, it's a basic tool to have.

Most autopart stores also sell a caliper piston compression tool. It works really well and costs less than $5 usually. It is just a C-clamp that fits properly into the caliper and compresses the piston when turning it. When you see it you will know how to use it(very simple).

I have used a screwdriver before to compress the piston slightly so the rotor fit between the pads when sliding the caliper in place. Be very careful and watch how you use it as a pry bar. You could damage the piston. Also compress your pistons slowly...this is not a race.

BTW: the screwdriver technique is not recommended, but it will work in a pinch

weaklings! If you're strong, you can just (slowly) push the piston back into the caliper. it's harder tightening down the guide/lock pins to 65 ft/lbs

I just used a big-ass pair of pliers to push the piston back. Vise grips work well too. BY FAR the easiest way to get stuck rotors off is to pry them off of the hub by threading bolts into the rotors.
