19358, How safe is the 15$ camber mod?
Posted by 98_silvergs, Aug-09-03 04:35 AM
Tomorrow i will be doing this mod and i need to know if its safe for our cars. I know alot of people have done it, but has anyone had any bad experiences? I'm lowered at about 1.7" right now and i know alot of people are at 2"+ with this mod and they say it worked.

After doing it, is the camber right on target or are we will still off a little bit? Is it noticeable?

Thanks

it been pretty safe for me. ive had it since about dec or jan so thats about 8 months...some people have had it for years with no probs. i used 5 washers on a 1.5 inch drop. well, it claims to be 1.5 but i think its lower. when i got an alignment, the rear was in spec

pic for fun

yeah, i did mine about a month ago on goldline springs and it still looks like there is some negative camber but i'm within spec. I have had no problems with it at all.

Where did all of you with the 15 dollar camber mod buy the specific bots and washers required? I know the bolts are a certain measurement, thread pattern, and grade.
- Eight (8) M10x40, 1.25 threaded bolts (Grade 10.9 preferred, Grade 8 acceptable)
- Thirty two (32) M10 flat washers, preferably hardened
- Eight (8) M10 split lock washers.

I have the same setup w/ goldline springs.. i started with only four washers and it wasn't in spec.. just upped it to 6 washers today and I'm gonna get it aligned again. Just wonderin how many washers u used.

I'm gonna start off with 5 today and see how it looks. I was suppose to do this yesterday but Home Depot didnt have shit for hardware. So i had to wait until i got to work, my job is filled with metric hardware. I dont understand why i was gonna buy it anyways when i couldve got the parts for free.

Ok, we ended up doing 4 instead of 5 just to see the outcome. It's off a little still but 10x's better than before. Do you think i should get it aligned then see the outcome, or just say fuck it and add the 5th washer?

4 definitely wasn't enough for me... 5 may work, but i really think 6 should be about right. we'll see.. i'll have it aligned this week sometime.

yup i'm with you "sorry i win". goldline springs, 2" drop, 6 washers(actually, 5 washers and 1 locking washer) and i'm in good shape, i had it aligned as soon as i was done with the whole lowering project and he said it was easy to get the rear tires into spec. i ended up using "fender washers" from sears hardware. in the couple of write ups that are around here about doing the "$15 camber kit", they say the bigger the washers the better and that's so that it spreads out the stress a little better. as i said, i ended up using "fender washers" and those bitches were freaking huge, they worked great. i used 10.9 hardness bolts and those big ass washers and that's all i needed. good luck with your project.
