19253, Problem installing Goldline coil springs on KYB ABX Posted by biltrite, Aug-02-03 12:29 AM
I just finished installing my new Goldline springs with my KYB AGX. I got everything done right (I think) but when I went for a drive, all four struts were making lots of noise. They sounded like metal rubbing as if my struts were loose. So I came home and looked at the bolts at the top and all of a sudden it's like way higher! Any idea what's going on? Could I be missing anything? I know for sure I don't have bump stops. Will it affect the installation process? Anyway, what I did when I put the springs up were to fit the springs into the struts. Then there was this small rubber piece and then right away was the big thingy with 3 bolts which fits into the car. After that, there was another little rubber piece followed by what looked like a washer. That's it! Then I just tightened the nut at the top. The funny thing is, even when I got the nut tight as hell, the springs still seemed loose. I think I might be missing something which helps make the spring a little more tight. Any idea? I really need some help.

I don't think goldline springs are THAT short was to where they would actually be loose after you tightened it down. Do you have the top piece on right that goes on the top of the strut rod?
If you have it out take a pic of what the spring looks like sitting on the strut.

I don't have a pic but like I said, after I tighten every nut and bolt there is to be tighten, the spring still sits kinda loose. I'm guessing that's the problem but I don't know what I'm missing.

Can someone please tell me what comes after the strut mount? I'm talking about the rubber piece that's below the metal piece that has three bolts and screws onto the car. I think the rubber piece is the same diameter as the spring and strut mount. What's it called? ANYONE!? HELP?!

I installed goldline springs on my car about a month ago... and the springs are definitely not loose... in fact they are rather compressed (especially near the top of the strut). I can't think of anything that you could have really done wrong when putting them on tho. How's your wheel gap now? Does it seem to be dropped about the right height?

Hey thanks for the info. I've found out what I was missing. I was missing the spring pad, bump stop and cup assembly. The cup assembly is the one that stops the strut rod from popping out. I've got it all done already and the ride is pretty good.
