18302, another spring install Q
Posted by old_nooB, Jun-10-03 06:20 PM
everything was going well when doing my suspension until i reached the cup that covers the bumpstop and holds the dust cover in place. in corbin's write up it seems to just slide off. is there some technique to take it off because mine seems to be either fused and one piece. any help would be GREATLY appeciated. tia

if you dont care to mess up your old struts just do whatever it takes to get it off. they can be a pain

Do you really need that black cup/dust cover to put on your new struts? Because when i replaced my struts, i tossed mine. Now the top of my strut sticks WAY up in the inside of my car and they "clank" real bad when i hit a bump...i cant figure out why they aren't down to normal....they are like this on all four struts. So i put my stock ones back on and it is doing the same thing. I would appriciate some help. TIA

Yes, it protects your shock "rod" from dirt and junk. Just put it back on and you'll see.

Hah...it does a LOT more than just protects the strut from debris shredding the inside, it seats the strut, if you look closely how it goes together you will see how it holds it in place, my friend didn't put those back on her eclipse and a month later one of the tops of the strut went through the hood.

Get them back on...ASAP.

same situation here. friend's car has a dent in the hood now cuz we thought it was just a boot, didnt notice the hard plastic piece on the bottom. you NEED it back on there.

yes, stick it back on, mine went right through the plastic peice in the back of the car. welp, then i had to take all the back side off again, and with the little rectangle peice ontop the strut already broke off, get the thing disassembled again ;(. do everything the way corbin tells ya.
