I finally got my axle nut off after breaking my breaker bar and now I cant get the axle out of the old wheel hub. Has anyone has a problem w/ theirs? I dont want to pound on it b/c it will screw up the threads on the axle. I've used a block of wood and beat on it for a while but it still wont budge. Any ideas?

you could loan a "front wheel hub puller" from autozone.

I just changed mine a few days ago and believe me it took a while to get it done. My axel splines were rusted and made a bond with hub splines. If that's the case with you.. and if you think that your axel is siezed inside your hub then let me know I might be able to give you a few pointers.

That would be great! Yes my splines are rusted together and i cantt get them separated. The axle wont budge. I went to advance auto but they said they didnt have anything. I guess i will go to autozone to see if they can help. I was thinking I would need a large gear puller.

What do / do i not have to unhook? I dont have to unhook everything do i? I just want to replace the wheel hub, not the entire axle. This axle wont pop out of the hub!

all of these bolts are coming off of the knuckle (the vertical arm that the hub is attached to)

take off the tie rod end nut.
take off the lower control arm bolt.
take off the upper control arm bolt.
take off the lateral arm bolt.

take off the damper fork bolt. from lower control arm.

after that pop out the axel from trany.

and you'll have your hub attached to the knuckle with the axel stuck in it.

then you need to find a very stable place to put your knuckle on with the axel hanging down from it and the axel nut part sticking up.

place it between two VERY STRONG metal tables or something so that you could use a sludge hammer to pound the axel out. (you've to hit it reaaaaaly hard, so have couple of your friends hold the knuckle in place)

make sure you put the axel nut at the end of the axel so you wont damage the axel thread.

OR take it to a machine shop and have them take it out by using press.

anyways there's alot of work involved. and it took me 6 hours to get it out.

OK. thanks alot. I'll work on it tonight. I thought this job would only take me an our or so like the rear did!

It "should" only take a short amount of time, until you run into the seized thread problem, hich happens to quite a few around here.
