i'm putting the other kit that i posted in the rear. wilwood 2 piston spot calipers, with 12.2 inch disks. The order is already placed for the rear kit so it should be here in about a week and a half. man i can't wait to install these!!!

Oh yea I remember that post now, the one where everyone said why the hell would you want all that power in the back, and you came back sayin that everyone forgets to upgrade the brakes as mush as other parts on the car. Man your are gonna have the pimpest brake setup. So if you dont mind me askin :) how much are you going to spend total in the end?

when my brakes are done it looks like i will have spent 2139 for the front and the rear all with wilwood calipers. I plan on installing the fronts tomorrow, and the rears should be here in a little while. after i get all these in i'll post more pictures. seeing that my stage 2 hrc kit cost 3500, and the pistons and rods and suck cost another thousand or so, i don't think the price spent on my brakes is really that much, people spend more on wheels, that most of the time have nothing to do with performance, just cosmetic. I decided, if i am going to do the brakes, i am going to do them right, no skimping, no settling, a philosophy that I use on every aspect of my car.

nice! very nice... damn james, youre car keeps getting better and better.....

im with you on this case.. braking is a very under-rated aspect of our cars... it takes money to go faster, but you need to spend money to stop! very nice setup.

Hahaha ok wow. Got a quick ride in the Jamesmobile tonite and I must say that it stops HARD. We were only going about 20mph (still break-in) and it felt like the car just... I dunno... it just suddenly wasn't moving anymore.

Oh, and those are the hugest rotors I've ever seen. Looks like you could just wrap them with tires and skip having rims.

:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

heheh ya, Dan and Kaiser both got rides last night. Dan was sitting in the back, and I took out the rear set belts, and I'm still in the break in process, so I didn't want to go too fast for the demonstration or Dan may have become a permanent part of my windshield! well, i'll take some pistures of the car and brakes at lunch and post them! These brakes are soooo soooo awesome I cannot explain! I just can't wait till I get the rears.

ah yea. hey james do you have ABS as well? when I upgraded to cross drilled slotted rotors, I had to adjust my breaking b/c it would lock up so much more often. I'm wondering if I upgraded brakes like you, if I would just end up skidding all the time.

can't wait to see the pics!

here you go nice pictures!
oh I do not have ABS on my car, I do not know how well these brakes would work with ABS, but I think it would not be a problem.

hehehehehe I must testify...them brakes are what you describe as "GODDAMN!!!"

From a 15-20mph roll, James' car stops on a dime, with 9 cent left over. We were joking in the car on our way to Dan's place, about how you can feel Negative acceleration G-forces...:P

Isn't it dangerous when you can stop quicker than the guy following 40 feet behind you? :P

hmm what are you using that for? Looks pretty overkill to me. I autox, road race, mountain run, drift, and drag race and I was satisfied with stock brakes with some aftermarket pads. Only reason I upgraded to DPCs was because I could fade my stockers barely after hard runs.

oh well I guess it could be weight reduction also. Those wilwoods weigh like 10x less than my DPCs haha!

well, other than the fact that my original brakes sucked ass. I bought the brakes becasue I could, and I wanted them. That's it, I have them, they are on my car, I can stop better than most anyone the road, I feel safer, I like them, they look cool, but mostly becasue I can.
Oh well, think what you want.

to be honest i think the brakes are compensating for the 18's. the larger diameter gives you a slight bit more traction but that's about it not much considering the negative aspects.

i have a few questions for you.

do you have ABS? if not how quickly can you lock your fronts? one would think with rotors that big and 6 piston calipers you would have beyond enough force to clamp the rotors dead even with 18's.
17892, RE: LOOK AT MY NEW CANDY!!!!
Posted by jamesman, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
I do not have ABS, I can lock the brakes if I want to, I have not done it yet being that I have not driven enough to completely break in the disks and pads so I have not used them severely yet, I do know however that i can lock them up. The largest benefit that I have seen is in the ability to modulate the brakes with little effort, I can easily modulate from light clamping to full lock up, something I definitely couldn't do with my oem brakes. my wheels weigh 16.5 pounds each, that is about half the weight of a stock 16 inch wheel.

The brakes look awesome James! TCE has definitely impressed me with this kit. When upgrading a car's horsepower, one must remember that you will need to upgrade the brakes because the faster you go, the faster you will have to slow down in comparison with the other vehicles on the road.

looks nice man! that's a hella nice kit. i went w/ gsx calipers and the aem big brake kit (12.5" crossdrilled/slotted rotors). gotta love the way the rotors fill up the rims. oh yea, any reason you mounted the rotors that way? i've got mine the other way around and i thought most people did it the opposite way from how you have 'em. idk how big a difference the direction of the slots make on fading an stuff. but yea, looks nice! if i had the cash i wouldn't mind your setup... i'm pretty happy with mine though. haha our stock brakes suck. can't wait to see the rears! :thumbsup

I used to have my cross drilled and slotted stock rotors facing the opposite way, but then I noticed that most cars with stock cross drilled rotors (eg. mercedes 500 sl) have the cross drilling going the other way. then i was like what the heck, so when i got this kit there was actual writing on the disk (left, right) and with these disks they are directionally vaned, meaning that the fins inside the rotor are like propellers, they actively draw air from the center of the disk and blow it outwards through the center of the disk and into the caliper. so i think it is really a preference thing for cross drilled and slotted rotors, but personally I think the way I have them on is the correct way based on the other factory cars i have seen with these type disks.

i see.. yea i think the internal vanes make a bigger difference that the direction of the slots an stuff anyways. i forgot to look if the vanes on mine were directional or not... hmm.. i froget. i don't think they were. :P looks good man :thumbsup

Where did you get those wheels, when I looked them up, those bitchs were expensive as hell!
18154, RE: LOOK AT MY NEW CANDY!!!!
Posted by jamesman, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
well, I got the wheels from a guy in San francisco. He was listing them on ebay. Only had 300 miles on them. he bought them and then got layed off. so he neede money real bad for rent, they were on a TL. I paid 1400 for 4 wheels, 4 225-40-18 yokohama parada spec 2 tires, 16 spline drive lug nuts and key, and 4 mcgard locks and key. It was an exceptional deal. They have a new forged 3 piece version of the wheel now with a deep ass lip, but they were way too expensive.
