Someone educate me on this...ive always wondered what people ment by offset of the rim or tire

Ex:38 offset 39 offset 40 offset and so on and so on

Please explain

Thanks I appreciate it....but it brings up another topic...tell me if im wrong but dont you think looking at the way our fenders are and our rims....dont you think we would need more negative off set to bring the tires out because if you ever notice...with a "0" offset like factory (just throwing out a dumb example) our tires sit pretty far inside the fenderwell....i think to better maximize handling and looks we would benefit from a negative offset to bring the tires out to fill in the line of the fender line...but not to much were the wheel rubs the fender line

our cars stock offset is +46. most will tell you not to go any less than +35 because you can start to put too much strain on the wheel bearings. i have 235 wdith tires with a 42 offset. fills up the wheel well all the way

yeah throwing the offset around to much will hurt your wheel bearings. ^^^ seems like sage advice though, aside from wearing 235's

Yea thats what I figured i wouldnt through out some outrageous neagtive offset.....because like i said i think our wheels sit way to far in the wheel well

yeah.stay between +46 and +35 offset. gogin negatvie will not be good at all. here is a pic of my car with a +42 offset and 235 width tires

yeah, ok 235 is wide yes, my only problem is i lowered my car 2 inches so if i hit a big enough bump my front left tire hites the fender, but it barely hits. im going to fix that soon and i should have no problem. besides, 235 means more tread on the ground and FWD traction SUCKS...but they look better to me though.
try to get around a +40 offset with like 225 or +38 with 225 and you will be golden...heres a couple pics

Hey Eagle5, does a higher offset put the wheels closer to the car or further away.

I just got my passion-5's shipped out finally (after waiting 8 weeks) and I got 17" ones w/ a +42 offset like yours, only those are the 18's right?

Also, how did you remove the thin piece of trim that goes down the sides of your Talon?

the lower the offset the farther out the wheel sits. so with a 42, the wheels are farther out than with the stock offset.

which trim piece are you taling about? the piece that is on the doors? or soemthing diff? if you're talking about the piece on the door..i never had it on my car so i didnt have to remove it
