Hey everyone...I've read a few similar posts, but I have some explicit things I need to describe. Like others on here, I have a violent, teeth-chattering shake felt mostly through my steering wheel between 70 and 85 (approx). It feels as though the steering ass'y is very loose, and the wheels are shaking freely. The arm I use to hold the wheel shakes so much I almost bruise from my watch! Now interestingly, my steering wheel is at a slight tilt (to the right) when I'm going straight (alignment? probably). The shaking occurs mostly, if not completely, on the highway, between 70 and 85, when the road is making any form of a right hand bend or curve (even the tiniest bend). It gets less severe as the road straightens, bringing the wheel almost straight. Then left hand turns in the highway are almost without shake. The tires and wheels (since I've had the car, which has been for 20K+ miles) haven't been balanced or aligned, but I don't want to waste my money doing all this if it's gonna turn out to be something else. Anyone help me out with this? If it'll help, I'll go and align and balance all four corners...but if this sounds like something else, I want to fix that first. Thanks guys!

You probably just lost a wheel weight on one of the rims. If it has been that long since a rebalance, get it done.

A cheap thing to do is go and check all lug nuts to see if any are loose(FREE).

If none of this fixes it, then I am leaning towards brake rotor warpage. You should feel it mostly in the brake pedal, but when it gets really bad it can be felt through the steering wheel and shake violently.

You can have all four tires rebalanced for roughly $20. Even pepboys cannot screw this up.

Sounds like you are not a suspension guru, so when they are rebalancing the tires, have them move the wheels all around to see if ball joints are loose, tie rods are tight etc. etc. They usually do not mind doing a quick once over when you are actually spending some money with them. I would be there when they do it, so they do not try and get you to pay for massive labor on something you do not really need. Unless something is really loose, you should not feel the vibration like you are talking about.

Another thing to consider. If you have aftermarket rims that have those plastic hubcentric rings, it could be missing or not aligned properly. This would cause a vibration and the wheel would balance normally on the machine.

As for the bearings, I had the recall done, a year ago, so that had better not be a problem. Pep boys does tire balances for all four at 20? damn. I'll check them out, I was expecting to pay 40. Also, what should a 4 wheel alignment put me back?

Yeah, sounds like a wheel out of balance, or a bent wheel perhaps. A four wheel alignment runs about a hundred bucks around here.

Just got some work done today...god, I forgot how expensive tires can get. 4 Yokohama V rated tires, 205/55R16s, mounted, balanced, with a four wheel alignment and protection warantee, all for $527. Is that high? It had to be done...the cheap tires on my car had lived their life years ago. They handle MUCH better and grip worlds better. That shake is A LOT better, but is still there between 70-85. NTB had me come out and check the whole process out, my rear right rim is pretty bent I guess...sounds like that's what could be causing the shake.

I really wanted to wait and do rims and tires instead of spending 5 bills on 16" yokohamas, but whatever...I'll keep the factories with the yokohamas and use them in the winter.

Does anyone have a stock 95 GS 16" rim lying around they need to get rid of??? :)

Ok, now this is messed up. If you readthe above posts, my car shakes from 75-82 or so. But heres the thing-not always. sometimes I can cruise at 75-80 no problem, just like it's never shaken before...while *most* of the time it does shake, this no shake thing happens at least once or twice a week. WHAT IS CAUSING THIS?

Could it be the suspension, which is still stock with 143 on it as far as i know? Could that cause it? Control arms? Suspension bushings? I'm sick and TIRED of it, and want my car to stop shaking. Please please, someone else HAS to have had this problem at one time...sometimes shaking between 75-82, sometimes it doesnt. This inconsistency is what confuses me the most. HELP, please!

i had the same problem, then got my new rims(actually used oz's) and she is smooth at any speeds, no shaking watsoever.
