16632, got into an accident today, wtf is wrong w/ my breaks? Posted by ajna_star, Mar-26-03 02:05 PM
i was driving and i glanced off the road for a second, and when i glanced back the car in front of me had stopped. i had about 15 ft or more to stop, and i was only doing 30 or so mph. i slammed down on my break and the car just kept going. it felt like it caught for a second, then just slid. i just had my rotors and pads replaced a few months ago... is that normal? how can i upgrade my breaks so they catch and ACTUALLY stop...

Sorry to hear about the accident.. they suck x( Did your brake pedal sink to the floor when you tried to stop? Or did it feel normal? If it sank just remember to pump it to build up some more brake pressure and hopefully they will start to work.
Also at 30mph 15 feet really isn't enough room to stop in. Just remember to keep that 3 second following distance so you have time to stop, swerve, or do what ever you need to do to avoid an accident. At least that's what they told us to do in Driver's Ed :thumbsup

yeah, our brakes suck for heavy cars imo. I want some bigguns!

Could that be air in the brake lines?(from the work done)

you can swap in dual-piston-calipers from a gsx. you need to get bigger rotors too. the GSX calipers grab way better. i remember being really wary of my brakes when i first got my car. from what i understand, that's just the way our stock breaks are. i did the GSX swap and upgraded to 12.5" AEM crossdrilled/slotted rotors and they grab like nothing. i've almost never had to slam the breaks but when i do it never feels like they're beginning to fade or anything.

Sound slike you are losing brake pressure somewhere in the system, be it a leak or air coming in the line some way. Track down this problem before you do any upgrades. With out brake pressure the bigest rotors ni the world won't stop you.
