Seeing as how I don't have any myself, I'll just take a guess at it. :P
I believe they have a threaded sleeve which goes around the strut. The sleeve allows you to move the spring up and down in relation to the strut, thereby raising/lowering the car. Am I right? What prize do I win?

Pretty much like he said it. Coilover springs sit on a sleeve mounted on the shock. Turning the ring on the sleeve raises or lowers the spring. It's about 1/16th inch per turn on mine. One thing to keep in mind is that you have to raise the car to adjust them. You can't turn the ring with all the weight on it.

Yes cheap/crappy coilovers go for like 100 bucks for 4
and yes depending on how far you drop it will screw up your camber.

Dont skimp on suspension IMO

Any time you change the ride height of an independent suspension car you will be changing the camber (and caster, and toe) of your suspension. Maybe not by alot for a small change in height, but it will change.

Don't waste your money on cheap coil-overs! If you want to go cheap, get regular springs! If you don't mind spending around $300 for springs, get good coil-overs. I have Skunk2's and I really like them.
