I am 80% sure the recall was done on my car about a year and a half ago, but two weeks ago I got the symtoms of problems. My mechanic verified it today that it's that. Anyone else have this problem and better yet have Mitsu redo the work covered? I have an appointment this Friday and would like to know how to deal with it. TIA

Some dealerships tried to get away with "inspecting" the area. If they just inspected the area they screwed you. The recall states that all parts involved must be immediately replaced at no cost to the consumer. No Joe Bob mechanic can look at a piece of steel and see if it's structurally sound or not.

So take it back, get them REPLACED and don't let them give you crap.

If they already replaced them then I don't know :)

yes the recall is still open until the parts have been replaced, I did the same thing I went back 6 months later and had no problem getting it taken care of. They were also able to tell me that my recall was still open and that they only inspected it the first time.
They will have maintenance records stating that it was either inspected or replaced.

Call your local Satan, give them your VIN and they will tell you if your recall has or has not been done....do it today dude.

Yes, like said before it's open until your parts are changed out and declared safe. I bought mine at 70,000 and they didn't even flinch when I called in. Took it in, dropped it off, got a ride to work and they were done in 1 hour.

The symtoms are a loud bed squeak when you turn or come to a stop or are pulling out of driveway or pulling in. It's loud but when driving on the highway you may not even hear it. But if you put the window down it's there. Many say that once you stop hearing it, thats when its too late and the nightmare of stuff breaking is a sure thing.:o I just got word of another 2G that had the same problem, had the recall done before, and SATAN did fix it for him. I hope they do the same for me.:wary We shall see Friday....

You know what SATAN did to me? Over a year ago, they told me about the recall while my car was in for another problem. This was before I knew all the facts about our ball joints.

They told me that they inspected them, and all was fine. At the time I was like "okay" b/c I had no clue what they were talking about.

then I found out via 2gnt that these suckers can still break post-inspection. So in December I took it in and told them I wanted the recall done. They searched the computer and said it was already done. I then told them "No, you just inspected them. I've heard that this is a dangerous situation. I want them replaced." The guy said he had to talk with the manager first. He came back and said they wouldn't do it, b/c they "never had any problems with the ball joint if they previously inspected okay." I tried to argue with they guy but wasn't getting anywhere. So no replacement for me.

Can I go to another dealership to get this taken care of? Is there a Diamond Star hotline I can call? :7 San Bernardino Mitsu isn't doing what they are legally obliged to do.

Well it's done after 4 hours at SATAN. They didn't cover it any way what so ever. It cost me $155 for the lower ball joint installed. And flat out told me if it was done before, that was a one time thing. And if one of them at that time need to be replaced than the other was basically left as is. In other words...F U. And they said recalls where not an across the board thing but a specific VIN# type thing. So only certain cars needed it or qualified for it.:wary I was just so sick of the BULL. So be aware if your go to Satan you might leave with an empty wallet...x(

I had an appointment to go and get this done this morning, but when I got there, he said his "suspension guy" was out sick and they couldn't do it. Wouldn't it make you a bit nervous if, in a shop with 15 "factory techs" that only one guy was knowledgeable enough to do a common, documented recall? He told me to bring it in sometime this week and they'd "take a look at it. If it only needs to be sealed do that or order the parts and schedule a drop off time for the repair." I'm gonna go look for actual DaimlerChrysler documentation of the recal stating they have to replace it either way and take it with me to back up the fact... x(

just adding, i bought my car at 90,000 and chysler sent me a letter saying it had not been done, that or the fuel presure regulater recall. so they contacted me.

That's fucked up! Your next step is call Mitsubishi direct. There used to be a 1-800 number on the recall page. That's what I called to find out about the recall. I would call them and make sure you specifically name that dealership! Hope all works out!

This recall is for ALL 2G's guys, don't take crap from a dealer, but what you should do is call, ask them to run your vin, see if its been done to your car(or you havent got a letter in the mail, mine took months to come in the mail), then inform them that this is a mandatory recall and verify they will not charge you when you bring it in on your scheduled appt, also get the guys name you talked with. If the dealer your dealing with doesnt want to do it for free, pick another one, or if thats really your only mitsu dealer around your area, have it done, pay for it, and send the paperwork to mitsubishi direct, they will refund your money, thats what the doccument the sent me in the mail stated... good luck... I never keep my car running long enough to make my scheduled appt so i havent got it done yet either :-)

i'm trying to get them to give me the ball joints so i can do them myself.... there's no way my car can make it on the lift with out doing some damage.......

I have this same problem. I tried contacting the dealer and they told me there was nothing they would do because it was already closed. I then searched all over and found the customer service #'s for Chrysler and Mitsubishi:

They contacted the dealer, with me listening, and explained the situation. I have an appointment on friday. But I have to pay $44 for the inspection. They have to fix it even if it's been done before. Mine was done at 79k. I now have 106k and they should not be going bad again.

Well i just replaced my lower ball joints myself. F the dealership touchin my car! I got my shop wholesale discount on the ball joints too- 31 bucks a piece. Pretty straight forward install too...My driver side was squeeking BAD! My car sounded like some beatup old pickup or something. Jacked up the car, took off the wheel, and i could push up on the suspension a little, and could see a little bit of movement from the balljoint. The joint would come up a hair first, then the rest of the suspension would come up. Slapped the new part in, and presto :)

Well, I got the work done on Friday. For free!! They replaced both front lower control arms and lubricated other misc. chassis parts. I think they were extra helpful after I called customer service. They get special rewards and bonuses for excellent customer service and didn't want to hurt their record. I would suggest anyone having trouble to call customer service and have them contact the dealer. They will straighten up after that.

They can say that if they have already been replaced once. But if they have only been sealed or "inspected" then they need to be replaced regardless of your springs.

i feel sympathy for you.. i readlly do... I knwo exactly how it feels... same damn thing happened to me... But I actually started to hear the squeaks on my car..

i wish I as as lucky as you guys. Satan checked mine out when the recall first came out, and they "greased and sealed" blah blah blah.. well.. at about 50g miles, i start hearing this nasty sqeaking when I am parking in my driveway.. for about 1 week, then decided it was time to change the part.. I called up satan and asked if I was still a candidate for the recall.. guess what?.... they said "NO". your recall was already inspected on such, such date. Neadless to say.. it was a $95 part from, and about half hour in-home shop. But good luck with the rest of you guys.. hope you had better luck with satan than me.

i just called the local satan. they said both recalls have been done on my car. is there any way i can make sure the the actuall recalls were done and not just an inspection. thanks!

to someone above, they replaced your control arms for free? i had to pay $450 for the right side control arm assy!!! guess when they saw that one? during the recall. actually a mechanic told me about it a week beforehand, but he just said that "your suspension needs attention SOON" stressing soon
