i have been trying to get some wheels for a while now and have some questions about offset. i know what positive and negative offset is and know our stock offset is 46mm on a 6in wide wheel, for gs's. my question is what offset do i need to get an 8in wide wheel to fit. i know there are some on here that have them in 17x8s so what is your offset.
next question, only one website that i can find has blackracing 17x8s in stock but only in a 31mm offset, going buy this http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html. then the wheel will take up an extra 10mm on the inside and 40mm more on the street side. the wheel they say will fit has an offset of 38mm, that one takes up an extra 17mm on the inside and 33mm on the outside. thats less sticking out but i dont know if we have almost 2 cm to spare inbetween the strut/ control arms and our tires.
so what do you guys think

An 8inch wide wheel will fit with the stock +46mm offset. There won't be much space between the rim and the suspension, but everything will fit. My RX-7 rims are 8 inches wide and they are all right with stock offset (thanks to a small spacer)

As for your second question, I am not sure I can answer it for you, but I would say with the +31mm offset rim you want, you'd need at least a 1/2 inch offset (1/2 inch is about 12.7 mm) so the total offset of the combination becomes 43.7mm, that should fit.

Of course, then you have to make sure you get the right lug nuts that will have enough turns to hold the wheel on tightly enough (I think the rule of thumb is 7 complete rotations) or maybe longer studs (others on the board here would know more about this than me).

A spacer is added to the offset. For example, my 3000GT rims require a 15MM spacer (:o) and have an offset of 46MM. My final offset is 31MM. Keep in mind that these are 17X8.5" wheels, so your requirements would be slightly different. The tyres really do not want to tuck into the fenderwell on compression, so some modification with a mallot and rustoleum is necessary. }( Oh yeah, so are longer studs. When it gets warmer out (read: above 0!) I will install the studs so that I can actually drive on these beautifully wide wheels. :D
