Hey all-
Its time for me to replace my brakes. I have decided to do new rotors, pads, and brake lines. I would be intereted in what other ppl here are running so that i can get the best.
I was gonna get the Arospeed big brake kit that included larger rotors and re-location brackets but I heard that they dont fit my car- 97 GS. Anyone here running these?
Also cant decide between EBC Greenstuff pads or AXXis metal master pads? Any opinions.

I would help ya if I could, but I went from stock to the dual piston calipers. They stop ya in a hurry!

You lucky bastard!!! hehe... How much did that conversion cost ya and did you get brand new calipers and rotors or used ones?

I have the AEM big rotor kit, G-Stop ss brake lines, VGX pads and I painted stock rs calipers. I wish I knew about the duel piston upgrade before I did all this. Maybe I'll upgrade to the duel piston calipers when its time to change the front rotors. (I dont feel like ordering new rotors when there's less than 2000 miles on these) I noticed increased braking response right away.

Im doing the rear drum to disk convetsion as soon as it gets warmer so I'll post pics of that when they're done

I paid 320 overall, could have been a little less its a long story.

Checker auto parts sells loaded dual piston calipers for 60 bucks, thats caliper, mounting bracket, shims and brake pads. They do charge a 50 dollar core fee, but if I were you, and you really wanted to do this I would just return your calipers for a core. Hell... when I returned my core they didn't even look in the box. Worst case scenario is you pay the 110 each for calipers, and another 40 bucks each for gsx rotors, your right at 300 bucks. I'll put them on for you for free if you can't/don't wanna do it.

Car-parts.com (local junkyards) HAD some last time I looked for like 50 bucks each. They might need rebuilt, they might not from the junkyard. Brian (JustOne) said they charged him like a 10 dollar core charge though... hehe core charge at the junkyard :wary

I took my car to 2nd creek with this setup on it and it performed like a champ. They look a hell of a lot better than the stock calipers too.

Check out porterfield pads once you get the rotors and calipers you want. They are popular with some of the autocross guys, and I like them too. They have street and race pads, I don't reccomend race pads for the street, they are supposed to tear up rotors after extensive use.

Since you are keeping the stock calipers, decide first if you want slotted or cross-drilled rotors. Many companies, like Powerslot, Powerstop, Brembo, etc., make reputable stock-sized rotors. For pads, the Porterfields R4S are by the far the best street pads. They are expensive, however compared to others. I have the Axxis pads, and they do their job well. The bad side-effect is the amount of brake dust that they produce. I have heard only great things about the EBC Green.

Get REMAN GSX front calipers from MITSU dealer, 220 for both.

Get GSX FRONT ROTORS (cross drilled)

GET X DRILLED REARS

GET Goodridge Stainless Steel Brake lines

Get Axxis Metal Master Pads or a high performance pad of your choice

Get MOTUL RBF Racing Brake Fluid

MY SETUP, cheap and highly effective,

OR GET AEM KIT FOR GSX AND GET THE GSX CALIPERS LIKE ABOVE ($$$$)


OR GET THE 13 INCH KIT AVAILABLE FOR OUR CARS (TCE makes them i belive, do a google search for them) ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$)


Oh, arospeed = crap dont even go there!

yeh i dont think the arospeed is as good as i thought it looked. I have everything for the rear disc conversion from a gst just sitting here waiting to be put on and i wanna do the gsx calipers and rotors up front too. Is that all we need for that conversion in front, just rotors and calipers? or some other little things?

if you've got 17's or bigger and really wanna fill them out, go w/ the dual piston calipers from the GSX and the AEM (GSX) rotors. those things are about 12.5" and cross-drilled and slotted. looks pretty sweet too. they're two piece and the aluminum hats come in red blue or silver. if you conver to the GSX calipers, i dunno how big a difference there is in performance btwn stock GSX sized rotors or the AEM rotors though. but uprading to the GSX calipers and rotors will definately make a big difference compared to our tiny stock calipers an rotors.

sorry i don't have pics, but i've got the GSX calipers, AEM rotors, and SS lines. looks really nice w/ my 17's. lotta stopping power too. :7
