14609, best overall tread rating???
Posted by 9D9 MITSU RS, Dec-31-02 04:28 PM
I have H rated falkens on for now b/c they were a good price. They lasted a while, but I don't really like the performance. Are Z rated tires the way to go? I know they are a better performance tire, but do they wear really fast? Also, what's the difference between Y and Z? I have noticed Z says like 140 or something + and Y is rated at like 186. I want something that will stick to the road, won't wear quickly, and something that really channels water. I am running falkens now. How are the yokohama paradas? And how expensive? If you guys can, give me links, pics, specs on tires along with what you paid. Any info helps. I'm gonna need new tires b4 long. Thanks a mil!

I think the difference between y and z is z is unlimited and the y is up to 186. Ive never actually seen y rated tires though.

Tread life is different for every brand of tire. I don't remember the actual rating system used, but not all z rated tires will wear the same. Our kuhmos are lasting forever, but IMO they don't handle for shit. Now the last yokohamas we had on the celica stuck to the road like glue, but only lasted a year.

I am in the same boat, I bought some h rated tires last year and will be replacing them soon. Myself, I live by Yokohama so I will be going with the parada spec-2s or the avs-100. Ive heard good things about both.

I hate it tho. it's like everytime I save money towards turbo, or body work or whatever, TIRES!!!!!! I want something good, but something that lasts. The falkens seem to have a nice life and hold good. I just don't like them in the rain. Maybe falken has a better tread pattern out there.

the higher the tread rating on the tire...the longer its "suppossed" to last. Everytime the rating doubles, its suppossed to double the amount of time it takes to wear. Of course, this doesnt take into consideration racing and burnouts etc.

If you want something good in the rain, you shouldn't look at performance tires with Z tread rating. They are meant mostly as summer tires for dry pavement traction. You should just get an all season tire if you want good wet performance. Check out www.tirerack.com and they have user ratings on most tires with ratings for dry/wet/snow traction so you can get a better idea of what tire to go with.

I never noticed they had the rating chart. I like the way the parada spec 2's look on the chart. I think I'm gonna get those. They seem like a high grip all the time tire with nice tread wear. They aren't high as hell either. Seems like a good value. I've been paying like 450 for my falkens a set for 205-40-17. I am going to a 215-40. I like the lower profile of the 40 over the 45, but the 205 is too narrow and has no sidewall. 215's are great.

Paradas look like great tires. Go for it!
