14428, Are my struts blowing because they are oem?

Or close to it. You see I dropped my car with stock struts and they quickly blew. Then I replaced them with monroe struts which are basically oem and they blew again. So... Are there any struts made for a dropped car, assuming thats why these struts are blowing? Is this a reason why people get tokicos and what not? the ride is so damn bouncy

when lowering a car its ALWAYS good to just do the whole suspension...unless your struts are fairly new...saves you from headaches your having now

Ok well I replaced the blown ones with monroes, which are pretty oem like i said, so what I was wondering is will performance struts like tokicos not blow out because they (might) be made for dropped cars? I want this to be the last strut replacement in a long time...

aftermarket shocks ie tokico and koni's are both designed with a possible moderate drop...staying with a 1.5" drop or less will be fine with those...stock shocks simply arent stiff enough to handle the higher spring rate of lowering springs so evven new ones will be ruined quickly.

i replace the stock struts with OEM style replacemets when i put my springs on. it only took about 2-3 months before the fronts were blown.

Performance struts can handle performance drop. Stock spring are designed for stock drop.

Ok so do you guys have any cheap suggestions? I dont need performance, just something that wont blow. Are there like struts called KYb or something for $67? I have no clue about this stuff, kyb was a guess from something I saw before. Or maybe it was cheap tokicos..... Obviously Id have to get it online, whats the best place? I hope this is only a 1 time thing!

Well, I have the Neuspeed Sport Springs with the GR-2 KYB shocks, I have always read that these aren't really sport springs, and that they are the oem shocks but a little stiffer. I have a 1.7" drop and they are good enough for me and some of the roads around me are shitty. I got mine from tirerack.com for like $45 each. I have had mine for about a year now and theyre still good, so I would recommend those, but if you are dropped more than me, then you might wanna go with some koni yellow adjustables. Hope this helps

Hi, thanks for your help.

So the kyb struts don't blow out? Stiff sounds good, I hate bouncing. Can you see from my sig how dropped I am? Is it around the same as your car? Id like to get these struts if they work for you.

Well, I don't know if they won't blow out in your case cause I have about a 1.5" in the rear and the front is a little lower like I said before. Your car looks alot lower than mine especially your rear(your tire is like in the well mine still has a 3 finger gap)...anyway, in your case I would go with something a little stiffer than the KYB GR-2's because I have heard that these are the springs that come on the GSX's?? I might be mistaken, but all I'm saying is that the GR-2's aren't really sport springs, but just a little stiffer than ther GS stock ones, they work fine for me cause my springs are a little stiffer than other springs(about 60% stiffer than sotck) so I still bounce but not as bad as I thought I would and definately not as bad as some of the guys I know with Si's and Tegs. I would checkout shox.com or tirerack.com, these places have good prices and great shipping. Hope this helps you out, and good luck, oh yeah you're better off doing it good now than doing it over and over again, don't cheap out on your suspension, it makes your car feel like shit.

www.summitracing.com -- get the KYB GR-2's @ $50 a piece. I have them and I'm almost 2" in the front and 1.5 in the rear...8 months and still going good.

KYB agx's or tokico adjustables...if ya got the cash, koni adjustables (dont we all want em). As a side note, I've been on my stock struts on a front drop of 2" and rear of 1.75", and my struts are still fine. Not bouncy, no leaking from the strut cylinder, they are still fine believe it or not. Car currently has 74000 miles on it..I really want some adjustables though, esp for the upcomming track sessions this next season. If you want the cheapest one that will hold up pretty good, go with Tokico blues.

I had to buy GR-2's because at the time i had no choice but to buy them, couldn't find anything else in town and needed them that day (took apart shit and the rear struts were rusted to the springs. Beat that.

go to www.shox.com They have tokico illumina 5-ways for like 60 bucks each. I think they're even cheaper at coximports.com (might be wrong url)

Performance springs will definately keep up with any drop. Hell, sometimes i feel like I could go offroad with my tokico's. :9
