1424, Lug Nuts Stripped - HELP Posted by eclipse804, Mar-31-01 08:54 PM
Two of my front passenger lug nuts are stripped. The actual threading on the car's hub assembly is also stripped (but only at the outermost end). Now I can't get the lug nuts back on. Can this be repaired by maybe grinding down the threading on the car? Or do I have to replace the whole hub assembly? Also, is it ok to drive around with only 3 lug nuts? Thanks...

hahaha. this reminds me of my eclipse with wires days(some of you may remember). i used to have 15" wires with low pros and i would constantly break front lugs. anyways you can roll on 3 for a while. hell i did it for 3 days with f@#kin reverse wheels. i just wouldn't driving all hardcore. you can go to any tire shop and have them replace the studs. they are easy to replace and they won't charge you that much. like $4 a stud and maybe $10 for the labor. but it's nothing that's gonna kill your budget.

I would NOT roll on 3 lugs very long. If your lucky they were not studs that were side by side, but every other one. GET IT FIXED NOW, Or as soon as possible. VERY UNSAFE - ESPECIALLY on the FRONT WHEEL. Good Luck

Ya they weren't studs side by side, but one apart from each other. I think I'll try to force at least one of them back on for now, until I can get it fixed...

I had one of my lugs stripped out while it was on the car, so i couldnt take it off. i took it to a local tire shop, and they used an air gun to break the stud off...got an extractor to get the lug off the stud, and then replaced my stripped stud. the cost was 7 dollars and something including labor on the sheet, but the guy was real cool and told me not to worry about it. took them like 15 minutes.

COOL 7 bucks with parts and labor? Did they have the 12x 1.5 studs in stock and the correct lug nuts as well, or should I order it from the dealer? Thanks a lot...

I strongly recommend not riding on three. I did this and my driver side front wheel flew off while going 60mph
Pretty scary shit. I think if my car wasnt lowered, i would have been screwed.

i guys it depends on your luck. i broke 2 on the drivers side, had 15" reverse wires on the klipz, drove 10 hours down 64 to VA beach and was averageing 70 to 80. just don't take any corners too hard i guess.
