13782, Brake Problems...

Hey guys.. Well the brakes on my front passenger side is kinda jacked up right now. Just the other nite it started making a really loud grinding sound when i slow down. It's the loudest when i'm almost at a complete stop. I'm prety sure my pads are gone.. I've got the crappy 14" stock rims but i can kinda see inside an there's definately a nice scratch all the way around the rotor.. i'm takin the car in on monday but just wanted some suggestions on what to do and what prolly needs replacing. i dunno if the caliper's messed up or anything but i'm obviously gonna need a new rotor. now i am planning on upgrading my brakes (apparantly i'll be doin it sooner than i thought). i was planning on possibly doing the big brake upgrade. however, i gotta order my 17's first... i got the money an could prolly order my rims an brake stuff within the next month or so. i guess i wanna know what i can do for a temporary fix and how long it'll last. i don't want to buy a new rotor when i'll be upgrading shortly. can i just have them put on some new pads for now? i don't think it'd be a good idea to just leave it until i upgrade. it doesn't sound very good... any input would be grealy appreciated. TIA!

oh yea also any suggestions on which upgrade to go with would be very helpul as well! i was kinda lookin at the AEM one.. i don't really need extremely high performance brakes but just somethin that'll fill up some 17's an give me a little bit performance. thanks!

If you are going to upgrade then don't spend any kind of money replacing stuff. Just get some new pads. You can probably get by without getting a new rotor. If it ends up you need to replace the rotor and pads then email me... I have some stock rotors and pads with lots of material left on them that I will sell you for cheap.

Oh and I have heard the AEM upgrades are nice, they had some problems with the rotors cracking but I haven't heard anything about that in quite a while.

anyone know if it's likely that anything else is jacked up besides the rotor? just curious what to expect...

they will tell you that you need new rotors and pads just put on a cheap set of pads and don't do any hard braking till you get your new stuff. The pads will get messed up real quick so get your new setup asap.

EDIT this is not very safe so if anything happens I am not at fault :)

lol damn i was gonna quote you an hold you liable if any shit happened... thanks for the info. i kinda figured it'd be eating pads pretty fast with that nice gouge around the rotor... oh well better than leavin it w/o any pads :P haha i have an excuse to order my rims an brakes now... }>

*edit* oh yea could i have jacked up my calipers or anything? on my old car (1991 pontiac station wagon) i had to replace a whole bunch of shit including the calipers... cost me like $500 something.. i'm not sure how that happened actually b/c everything seemed fine an i was told i just needed new pads when i got my safety checked - the brake people said otherwise... but then i didn't know shit about cars back then :P
