Personally, I say 17's would be a all around choice with a 7" width so there are no fitment probs. Im runnin 17"x7" wheels with 215/50/17 tires. Less chance of smashing a wheel when hittind a bad hole. as for brands, pretty much any brand you want is available.

If i had the money, i'd pony up for some Centerline RPM 17x7 or maybe even 18x7. At 400 each, they are a bit spendy, but they are hella light,14 lbs each for 18's i believe. If i get this new job i have my eye on, i might be buying myself an early birthday present next year....

Since you used the word performance, I assume you want to build a performance car? This means that the smallest performance wheel you can use in conjunction with a performance wheel would be 17" in most cases. :)

hehe performance does not mean bigger wheels in most cases that would be looks..
performance wheel would be smaller lighter and stronger..
if u want performance for drag racing a good combo would be 15 or 16's 45-60seris tires real sticky like drag radials,
auto x 16 would be optimum with some sticky tires for cheap ones sumitomo or kumho are great buys z rated for its strong sidewall and 45-50 seris to protect from potholes..
the tall u go the more roll you'll get in corners with the tires..

most total performance cars have big brakes tho, meaning you pretty much need 17's atleast. I plan to go up to 18's. The 18's I want are going to actually save me about 20 lbs. 22 lbs each compared to my 27.5 lb 17's. So, bigger isn't going to slow you down all the time.
