Did any 1g AWDs come with dual piston calipers?? If so how are they different from 2g dual piston calipers? Reason being is I am buying some DPC from a board member, and he told me tonight one is from a 1g and the other is from a 2g. He also said he had to order a 1g rebuild kit for the 1g caliper so we know there is SOME sort of difference. The sources I have found say that 1gs came with single piston calipers. TIA.

All of the 89 to 92 AWD cars (to a manufacturing date of 5/92) had the "small" brakes (the same single piston calipers that all the FWD cars have). The 93 and later cars have the dual piston calipers.

That makes sense based on the different part numbers I was seeing. The real question is will a 1g dual piston caliper bolt on to my car?? And how different is it from a 2g dual piston caliper??

Todd is correct about the production dates of the dual piston calipers. The 1G AWD dual piston calipers shoudl bolt right up as long as you get the brackets. However, you may need to get different brake lines if it doesn't come with the banjo-type fitting.

yup, Karl is right :) they will bolt up if you have the brackets, but you might need to get different brake lines, some of the fittings are not the same, I forget why that is so or which ones are different.

ok a couple last questions and I will shut up. Will it matter that one side of my car will have the 1g caliper and the other side have the 2g?? Oh and is there a difference in calipers on vehicles that have ABS and vehicles that do not? I read that ABS came standard on 93 awds wheras my car does not have ABS.

One MORE thing.... when I looked up brake lines for a 1g there was an inner and an outer brake line. I am assuming I would want the outer, but would it all work together?? I am thinking I will get the caliper, buy a 2g reman. from autozone (60 bucks) and return the 1g as the core. It might make my life easier.

No problem, Jason. As long as you hook up each of the calipers correctly, you should be ok. Just observe out the brake lines when you are about to do the install as it may not work as easily as you want. By the way, why would you want to use one side with a 1G caliper and the other side with a 2G caliper?

It does not matter if you get calipers from a donor car that had ABS or not. DSM ABS is not controlled by the caliper. Good luck.

Well I bought some dual piston calipers, rotors and pads from a board member. He was rebuilding them before he sent them to me, while doing so he realized he had one 1g caliper and one 2g caliper. I guess the 2g caliper rebuild kit does not work on a 1g caliper. I think I will take the easy way out and buy another 2g caliper. The part numbers are different for the rotors and pads too... sounds like a royal PITA. Thanks again!! :thumbsup
