12657, Illumina install tomorrow Posted by 9D9 MITSU RS, Oct-12-02 06:08 AM
was gonna do it today, but I was tired as hell. Anyways... What should I look for different? I have put on sportlines, then a pro kit. My main concern is the bump stops. Should I trim them according to the pro kit template which sugests like 10 mm I THINK. or the illumina guide that says roughly 1/3 off the bump stops? Or are those both about the same?

Hehe, dude it's not like you have to be all exact. It's gonna be pretty tough getting it 10 mm. :P Just slice it right down the middle and call it a day.

it says cut 1/3 off. It won't hurt to cut them in half?

well, I already blew the passenger side front one. My dad was helping and we didn't notice that some things went on wrong. The rod didn't come up far at all and we were coming back out with it, and the adjustment thing on top blew out, and hydraulic oil went everywhere. He's gonna buy another shock tomorrow. Sucks ass.

btw, do these things blow easily? I really can't have the rear ones blowing like that. It would ruin my seats, etc. I am scared now that if I have the car jacked up, they will blow from stress. Did it probably just blow b/c my dad assembled it wrong? The bump stops are cut, but the one that blew had some shit upside down. The 2 black bushings were wrong.
Also, do the rear bump stops have to be trimmed? The eibach pro kit chart says 35mm front, and NA rear. So I leave the rears alone?

You blew an Illumina before it was on the car? wtf?
Cut the front and rear bumpstops in 1/3's. The bumpstops have 3 ridges on them. Cut 1 of them off, or in half...either way. I still don't get how the hell a strut blew out on you.

me either. maybe it was defective? So I cut ALL the bump stops? The prokit chart says only fronts.

Yeah, cut them all.

They are on the car. I can tell a difference already. I set them to F2 and R4 at first. The back was stiff, so I now have them set F2 R3. Hopefully this will help make for a comfortable ride. Either way, it's better than riding on blown stock struts.

I set it to 3 and 4. it's kinda stiff, but it seems like it doesn't bounce as much in the front. I don't wanna bottom out and bust anything, so I guess that's good.

Check everything that came with your Illuminas. They have a card with a warning on it stating to be careful during install or shock will blow.
