11691, Opinions on tires...please help Posted by FlyinEsi, Aug-22-02 07:28 AM
I went driving around to all of the tire stores in town here today (only took like 1.5 hours) and here is what I found...can you guys help me pick some good all-season tires for winter...
Options: 1) BFGoodrich Excentia GT-H (Walmart) 50,000 mile warranty $363
2) Bridgestone RE910 (Peerless Tires) 60,000 mile warranty $512
3) BFGoodrich Radial T/A 50,000 mile warranty (I think) $462
4) Cooper Lifeline 60,000 mile warranty $432
5) Cooper Cobra GTH 40,000 mile warranty $453
Do you guys have any experience with any of these tires in winter conditions? or just all season conditions? I really need help and these tires are fucking expensive! Please help me out
Another question: Can I get a 4-wheel alignment job done? or just in the front? Can a shop align the rear?
TIA

I have Kumho Ecsta 712 Supra 225/45/17 right now and love them. They were $100.00 each (I now live in TX).
When I was living in Minnesota, I had Pirelli P7000 Super Sport (All-Season tires).
They worked really good in winter. These tires were around $132.00 each though.
Sorry, I'm not familiar with the other tires but as far as getting an alignment - any tire shop will do it and they will do a 4-wheel alignment - that's what you want for about $50.00 unless you're lowered then all they do is bitch-bitch-bitch.

My dad has kumos on his gst. All I can say is their awesome. I have yokohama avids on my rs, and I don't like them as much as the kumos. the kumos are quiet and they stick better than my yokoonos.

You might also want to look at the BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDWS. I had good luck with these tires on the Eclipse. They are Z rated, with a 400 treadwear rating. A much better tire than the stockers. Handle well in the dry, wet, and even some snow. I had them on for a full winter up here in Maine and never had a problem. They go for about $111.00 each.

I know alot of guys on this board don't like the Kumos. I know alot of guys love the Yoko's - but they are also expensive, much more than any tire you have listed there. And..I know of ton of guys on here are running on Nitto 450's b/c they are reasonable in price and handle quite well. About 115 a tire. You'll have to go to a high performance shop to order them (not Wal-mart). I am not sure about the tires you have listed but I know you get what you pay for with tires :)

I had the Bridgestone RE910's on my old '88 MR2 (16" rims). They work REALLY well in wet weather which they saw plenty of being out near Seattle! They were just as good on dry pavement. They don't wear out fast either, so they last long. They don't have exceptional grip compared to the G-Force TA KDW's and such, but they are nice for the money. I haven't tried any of the others though, so I can't pick one to go with. Hope this helps! Edit: Oh yeah, lots of people will tell ya to stay away from Cooper Tires. They supposedly suck balls!
