11149, Was I suppose to cut or remove my bumpstops when I installed H&R Race Springs? Posted by xEclipsE RaceRx, Jul-29-02 12:58 PM
I was telling one of my friends that when I take big corners I can hear one of my tires like lift off and squeal...and he was like its cuz yur resting on yur bump stops...he said I should have removed them or cut them...is he right? Im only dropped 2" and I thought you had to do that with excessive drops or like with coilovers...is he right?

Well i know with my H&R sport springs, which are a bit less of a drop, but not much, i had to cut a little off of the fronts, but none in the rear. I think you should have at least in the front. If you still have the install instruction sheet that came with the springs, it will tell you there how much to cut off. If in doubt, call up H&R to find out for sure..

Hmmm! I'm currently reworking my suspension at the moment so Im discovering a lot as I go. with only a 2" drop depending on what type of spring and strut setup you have, you shouldn't be pushing in all the way to your bumper stops unless your really taking some kick ass curves at a high rate of speed, I wouldn't go as far as cutting bumper stops unless you plan on slamming to the ground, trust me don't go there unless u got plenty cash. seems to me like your suspension maybe swaying under the force of the turn and thats not good if you're not really rolling hard, it could be from your strut setup not being stiff enough, the squealing could depend on what type of tire you're rolling, some tires just have a lot of squeal in them, goodyears on my car squeal the most,or you may just need a strut tower bar if you don't have one. Hey there's a lot of stuff to consider when dealing with the suspension, it can get deep- so if you want, take a buddy with you to a parking lot with a lot of room or a track and let them take your car through a few turns with you standing and looking to see what's exactly going on then maybe you can get the best idea of what you need to do. Good Luck

Cut them period. PERIOD.
If you lower more than .5" you should cut them.
Just cut in half. With my setup I have like 3/4 cut off since I drive low sometimes.

Yes EXACTLY! RRE told me to cut mine in half with H&R Sport springs. It doesn't hurt, and only gives you more suspension travel so you aren't riding on your bumpstops.

ya i cut them too... but its not that big of a deal.. imo of you put them on now, dont worry about it, its to much of a fukin pain to take them off just to do that its just for comfort unless you get reallypised

with my prokits I cut them all in half and IMO a 2 inch drop is a lot. "only" a 2 inch drop geezz!

In my experience with the H&R Race, you really don't need to cut them. I think you should wait to stiffen the front end chassis before taking the entire shock assembly again. But if you do need to cut them, come on back down here and we'll do it... it won't take too long.

Let's not forget you don't have a camber kit on there yet either...

You don't have to remove your coils from the struts to install a camber kit though. Well, I guess it shouldn't be compressed much/any so you won't need a compressor so I guess it wont take too long. I could cut all yours in 1.5 hrs :)

I didnt cut my bumpstops when I dropped my ride and I have only bottomed out once. Ive been lowered for more than half a year at that. I wouldnt worry about it unless it becomes a problem later on.

hey bro, did ur spring deal go smooth? how do u like the struts u got from me? well anytime u drop your car you must cut your bumpstops in half ( more travel ) .. just make sure you get this done... dont turn to fast hehe
