i need help, when i was in my driveway on my way to work this morning my drivers side front wheel just collapsed/broke. it is resting on the top of the wheel well. the passenger side is still fine. i was already late for work so i just left it there and bummed a ride. what the hell happened? cv joint break? ball joint? i dont know, i need help or suggestions on things to look for when i take a look at it. i read in a earlier post about getting a rebuilt axle for like $60, where do i get that? a junkyard? TIA!

check on your wheel to see if you have any grease on it, if you dont then it could be the recall... if you dont have any grease is could mean that your axle broke

When mine did it i was driving bout 10 mph and i heard a clunk, then my car skidded a little like I had a flat tire. I knew right then what it was - ball joint..my tire dented the fender pretty bad and was all canted looking. go to the dealer!

I would have to guess with one of the 2 lower contor arms. Look under the spindle where you will find 2 big nyloc nuts. One of them is probably gone. Late mike

Just got my recalls done today. They did the regualr lat arm/ball joint thing. but i was also eligible for that emmision recall too! Car seems to handle better(obvious reasons i suppose). These guys were fast,friendly,really cool.On a side note, i was talking with one of the guys about the EVO. This might be info you already know, but he said it'll be coming over here probably late fall, but it will be called the EVO 8. It will be mostly the same except it will have a CAT and it won't be a twinturbo. Any guys in hamptonroads area that need to deal with satan, go to Hall Mitsubishi in Va beach...great guys!

I stand corrected. I didn't know anything really about the EVO, so i figured a mitsubishi sales guy would be a reputable source...i thought wrong i guess. Ok, so to update my earleir post...go to them for service but don't ask them any questions about the EVO..lol

hi guys i read this whole topic and now i am also a little concerned. over a year ago i bought this 96 rs from the original owner. it had 65k on it or so and im pretty sure he had never gotten any sort of recall done. are there any recalls that are neccessary for my car? if so i will get my ass down to the mitsu dealer (5 miles down the road) like tommarow.
thanks for any advice
