10078, 1995 Eclipse vibrates... NEED HELP! Posted by gilee_8, Jun-11-02 04:49 AM
Sup guys. I really need help here. I rebalanced my tires twices and I got my rims BRAND NEW, and BRAND NEW tires also. (17" rims) this is the problems:
1) steering wheel shakes (1/2 inch shakes) when I reach around 65MPH to 80MPH 2) when I lightly touch the brake at 35 - 45 MPH, the car VIBRATES (2-3 inches shakes) but if I hit the brake more(harder) then it's smoother, like only 1/2 - 1 inch shakes. 3) when I go like SLOW, around 10MPH and I hit the brake medium strenght, then the car is choking (like go, pause, go....) not alot.
The above 3 problems really bugs me alot. Especially vibrating .... kills my car like crazy. I REALLY need help. I am pretty sure that using the brake and cause vibrating prolly is because of the rotor and the brake pads... but how about when I am going at 65MPH-80MPH??? it goes smooth after 80. and before 65.
PLEASE HELP ME GUYS.... thanks man Thanks for the space. Gilbert.

about the brakes, they sound like they are warped to some extend when i hit on the brakes from 80+ mph, the vibrate a lot, if i brake from below 50 i will not get shakes.
i used to have the same problem about my car vibrating from 70 to 85, i had 14" tires, i changed them to stock 16 tires and no problem at all, i know they are new but check them again, and get an aligment. maybe some of the problem is still on the warped rotors.

I'm thinking it could be either warped rotors, worn wheel bearings, or a combo deal.
I think it would be easiest to check the wheel bearings. Raise the front of the car, grab the top and bottom of the tire, and try to push/pull to see if you have any play in the bearing. If you do replace the bearings.
If it doesn't feel like the bearings are bad, get some new rotors. The stock ones seem to warp pretty easily.
Hope that helps.

Thank you guys. I will try to do the rotor changes pretty soon. I will keep you guys in touch if I get any thing going and fixed. Also, about the bearing...I will check that out too.
But about the alignment and the tires. I am not sure about that, see this is my situation. I was having my stock 16" tires and had them aligned the front, and rear wheels. (they are off by 8 deg) THEN I CHANGE to my new wheels (18") is that got to do with anything? I mean, I did the alignment before I put on the new wheels, is that got to do with anything? I thought they took off the wheels to do alignment anyway, so are they the same?
Thank you guys for replying. I hope your answer will solve my problem. Thanks for the space again. Gilbert

yes it does matter what wheels you have on, check them again or get an "alignment for life" deal where you pay $20, $30 something and you go as long as you want.

you might want to get your wheels and tires re-balanced, too...

Hey guys! I am so happy man... I finally fixed my car. Well, most of it. I changed the front 2 rotors and all 4 pairs of brake pads. And last nite, I went out to hte parking lot to have a spin. SO SMOOOOOOTH......... so now, I fixed the brake problems... but still I have one more problem. (but at least the most annoying one is gone)
My car still shakes a little when I am going above 55mph - 75mph.
I need help on it! But still, I am very gratefull that I fixed one of the problem. Thanks guys, to who ever helped me!

I don't know about the CV boot...but that high speed shake could be a tire alignment(like pancito said ^^^) or balance problem(like trwebb26 said ^^^).
