Thanks for the info. In our case, those holes were so rusted over, I doubt the threads would have been usable and I wasn't sure what size/thread those bolts are, so I opted for the alternative method. I hate having to make two trips to the hardware store when I find out the bolts I "think" will fit, don't. ;)
