Just thought I would link to area hotels on a map in case anyone wanted to shop the area this far in advance and report back what they find. Perhaps we come up with a 2GNT contingency plan? I remember Michelle got suites at something in the area for almost half what we paid per night at the BW. When you think about how we generally just stick together after hours, do we really need to pay a premium to be in the middle of town?
Just throwing ideas out there for now. :thumbsup

Im sure most of us (Including myself) would be cool with getting our own "2GNT Hotel" for a little cheaper rather than going to the BW for twice the cost. And Besides after what happened at check in last year with the bitch behind the desk, Im all for Boycotting the BW :P

I really like the idea of a new hotel. We might even be able to negotiate a group rate for 2GNT members. :shrug
EDIT: I just sent a PM to Michelle to see if she has any connections at that place she stayed last year. It's just down the road. Either I or Michelle will update.

was it the amerihost or something suites? amerihost and BW are owned by the same parent company so i would guess it wasnt them.

I have stayed in the Norwalk Inn each year that I have been able to attend. Not the most luxurious, but a good place to sleep at a decent price IMO. Supposedly "closer" to the track than BW and all those other hotels. There is a field behind the Inn ( possible gathering/hangout place ), a carwash, and a Burger King next door.
I am sure if we all moved over to the Norwalk Inn, and acted responsibly, we would all have a really good time.
Just a thought.

Not to put a damper on the possibility of a new hotel, but the SO is the BW. I'd rather pay more cash simply because the BW is part of the experience. I'm staying at the BW no matter what as it just wouldn't be the same staying elsewhere.

You've got a point, but I think hanging out with 2GNT in person is the best part of the experience. Yeah, the Norwalk Inn isn't the most luxurious accommodations, but it's still in town and a good price. Meh. Either way, I guess time will tell. I have this bad feeling like we're going to see the BW start booking rooms that weekend for $200/night out of spite. Small town mentality...
|
56, RE: Norwalk | Hotels Posted by grain, Dec-16-05 12:44 PM
it is mainly finding a hotel that is full of car people... so that when we start getting crazy after 2am, we dont have families trying to sleep. rather drunk dsm guys to hang with.

57, RE: Norwalk | Hotels Posted by CrazyEclipse, Dec-16-05 01:40 PM
The place I stayed at was the Hampton Inn in Milan. My room was the king size for $89 and the other standard rooms were $69. I had the offer out there and a hand full of people took the offer. I'm sure all of them would vouch that overall it was a good place to stay at, minus the few problems we had, but even so, would stay there again for the right price.
We left Monday afternoon after the shootout after speaking with the location manager about the problems we encountered during the stay. He told us to call once we had dates for the 2006 SO and he would see what he could do. I called yesterday and had a long ass conversation with him about getting some sort of group rate, but the only problem is a group rate would be for 20 to 30 rooms. If we booked 19 rooms, it wouldnt cut it. He said he can work a deal but I would have to be 100% sure these rooms would be booked by a set date to get the discount.
Additionally, he siad if we get the ok to go ahead with it, he can set it up for all of us to be on one side of the hotel and not spread out on both sides, so we can be loud, but within reason without waking up anyone on that side of the hotel. One side of the hotel faces a residental area and the other faces brush and an intersection with no houses.
Either way, I plan on staying at this hotel again. I dont know how you guys can put up with some of the bull you get over at the BW. Sure its part of the SO expirence, but is it worth being looked upon as "part of the problem"? It would just kinda bother me personally.
Regaurdless, if its decided that 2gnt will remain at the BW, I'll still come down and get wasted and have someone drive my wasted ass back to Milan. Kinda sucks not being around you guys at the SO, but I stayed where it was cheapest and I have to. Trade off I guess.

I am new here. I would like to go see the shoot out, but what the F^%& $200/night? Is there some history behind BW cuz I would like to know. Why is it part of the experience? The way I see this is we are not going on a vocation with the whole family, or a honey moon, no sight seeing; every one is just going to get drunk so all you need is a room shower and a bed. I agree with crazyeclipse why pay double the rate if there is a perfectly good hotel a couple of miles away? Especially if we can spend the money saved on our cars.
Thanks for listening
Edit:
P.S. I don't really know but I would assume that most of 2gnt people want to hang out with 2gnt people. I mean it is fun to meet other DSMrs but I don't hang out at tuners. Any way when the time comes closer to booking the hotel some one might want to post a poll and see where most of the people want to go.
|
59, RE: Norwalk | Hotels Posted by madhatter210, Dec-17-05 04:30 AM
gramozeka, its kinda like this....thats were our founding fathers of 2gnt stayed the very first times to enjoy the SO and it has turned into tradition since. Heres an example: your going to see a nascar race, you can either stay at the hotel that dale jr stays at knowing there will be alot of yee haww fun times with booze, friends/mentors extreme car speak and maybe a random girl or two......or you can go and stay at derrick copes hotel where everyone will be asleep by 9pm after a prayer and some milk and cookies :P
And it is like a vacation...there is alot to go and see around there, you just need to get with the right people who are going to see them and show you where the dsm happenings are happening. Unless I fail to reserve a room at BW... that is where I'll be staying again this year.
|

Im gonna agree 100% with this statement. I think most of the "die-hard" guys here will too. The BW is part of the expreience as Matt said above, I dont think I could pass that up.
Even after my firts post above, I thought about it and staying somewhere other then the BW the SO just wouldnt be the same.

Last year, it was about $180/night with tax. That's a room with two beds. Split that with one guy and you're down to $90/night. Grab a third guy and rotate out to the floor (three nights, three guys, one night on the floor each) and you're only paying $60/night.
That's how it's done. I think this year I might have my own room, since the GF is coming. (And no, she is not the type to piss and moan about being bored or tired. She likes cars and she likes to drink. She'll fit right in with this crowd.) :thumbsup

Hell, the unofficial Cincy DSM room had 11 or 12 people in it last year. There was so much drunk snoring going on my wife and I had to go sleep in my car. Then those fuckers at the dollar store started unloading their truck at 6AM... :wallbash They had cool chairs though.

Speaking of chairs...
I heard that Greg was bringing chairs last year. Greg, you didn't bring enough to share! Come on, man. With four doors, you should have more than enough room for 30 chairs in that smurfwagen of yours. LOL.
I should bring a couple chairs this year, myself. :thumbsup

im about to book a room elsewhere. honestly, i am about tired of there BS anyway. the BW at cedar point is taking reservations for that weekend, why isn't the one in norwalk? my guess is they want to wait til a month or two in advance and charge large chunks of change for *in demand* rooms. screw them, screw them up their stupid buttholes.
i just booked my rooms at the amerihost. it is less than a few minutes down the street from the BW, .02 miles to be exact(and owned by the same parent company as the BW), within walking distance although i doubt my woman is into walking. 149 a night, stick that in your pipe and smoke it. i will still be at the BW quite a bit, i will just lay my head down at the amerihost. now, if the BW comes up and lets me reserve a room, i might just cancel them and book at the BW, but i highly doubt they will match the price and you better beveive i am printing this online confirmation out and taking it with me. :D

I tried to book rooms at the BW through the Best Western international/group reservations number. Even after telling the guy I was wanting to book as many as TEN rooms, he said he the Norwalk BW is booked up solid and he could not get any rooms for me. He then put me on hold and called them directly.
The Best Western in Norwalk has told even their corporate HQ that they are not accepting any reservations - be they by internet, corporate, travel agent, or phone - for that weekend.
They changed all the rates on us last year at the last minute, which I let slide because we, as a group, wrecked things and I felt guilty. Now, they can't get their shit together and at least give us all the same bullshit story. I say fuck the BW. It's not that nice.

I called them and booked three rooms for the weekend at $149/night + tax. She told me that all rates, even those with reservations, would be changed after the first of the year. She said to expect something like $189/night. I booked them anyways.
Maybe I should come up with an idea to give back to Norwalk by starting a DSM Shootout in Arizona sometime in January or February. :shrug

I am going to try and find a hotel nearby (probably north of Norwalk) cause I'm not sleeping in my car this year (or breaking into CB's room again either). We will have an 'extra' Nicole coming with us this year, so I'll be needing a private room. With a big tub. ;-)

what do you mean? you paid more than that last year at the BW.
|
94, RE: Norwalk | Hotels Posted by Avenger, Dec-28-05 04:44 AM
Uh ... no I didn't. I still have my reciept from the BW. I paid $348 for 3 nights. That's a lot less than $189 a night. In all honesty I think is more important that we are all at the same hotel than being at the BW. Even if it's a little out of town. It's not like we don't like driving our cars or anything!

Staying where, the Amerihost?
The Amerihost is right in Norwalk according to Driggs' map. I was looking at the Red roof near the turnpike ($155/night) or the comfort inn near the turnpike ($149/night).

For $150/night, I would expect to be in the middle of all the action. To me, the biggest benefit to staying outside of town is a potentially lower cost. If I'm going to pay the same premium rate, I better have the location to warrant it.

There goes the unity of 2gnt, so far from what I read like 3 people reserved rooms at 3 different hotels: Hampton Inn, INN NOW Suites, AmeriHost, BW. :-(
What is going on? Which hotel? Anybody needs a roommate for the shoot out, PM me.
PS What is the more important goal of people here to see fast turbo DSMs or to hang out with fellow 2GNTers? I would assume it is 75% hang out with fellow 2gnters and 25% see other DSMs
My opinion is there got to be one hotel for all or at least the one that has best compromise of price vs action. WE have control of both of this things. Action can be created anywhere. I can’t dictate anything here, so I will just follow the general consensus.

Which hotel? We've still got time. Even if we're all split up all over town, we all typically hang out at the same place. There is more unity among 2GNT at the SO than there is on this forum. You can trust that.

Yes, we love to go to the Shootout and watch the DSMs run, but we also spend three days or more partying and hanging out together.

Everything else will fall into place. There really aren't any worries for that weekend. Even if something on your car breaks, look who is right there in person! You just can't go wrong at the Shootout...

Any one giving any consideration to the Group Rates that Crazy was talking about getting if we can get 20+ rooms reserved. I'm in on that. Hell I'm really unconcerned considering my Military ID get's me reduced rates anyways. But I am definately goin to be driving up from Ft Stewart GA for this one. Definately want to get to meet all of you guys.
What are the exact dates of this shindig? Kinda missed that part I guess.

I know i could get an awesome deal out of Hampton Inn but I would need the comitment from 20+ people. Unfortunutly everyone is eveywhere this year and I dont think I could get the commitment. Despite where everyone else is staying, I'm at the Hampton Inn for $69 a night, I cant go wrong at the price. I might be able to squeeze 2 or 3 rooms at the same price, maybe a lil more.
