5281, Noisy TPS - MS

Not quite sure what the deal is here, unless its a normal thing with our TPS, but at idle and sometimes while Im driving the TPS will twitch. Usually I have it calibrated so its at 0% and will either twitch between 0 and 1% or -1 and 0%. Seldomly it will go +/- 2%. It also does it while Im driving, sometimes even triggering the Accel Enrich for a fraction of a second. This a normal occurance or is there excess noise in my TPS line?

Try giving the TPS its own ground. Worked for me.

Run MAPdot and don't worry about it.

Are you Ms2? Smoothing/lag enabled? Where you pulling the 5 volts from? Grounding? Also, like Dino said, use MAPdot or increase the threshold for change.

The problem with just increasing the noise thresshold is that depending on the noise level you can affect drivability by thresholding out your cruise throttle changes. You can compensate in your VE map, but its not really ideal. Map signal tends to be a lot cleaner, and MAP varies with throttle even for ssmall changes, so in my opinion MAPdot is really the way to go.

Of coursen you can always run your TPS soley from the squirt and clean up the signal, but I like to leave my factory harness as unnolested as possible...

MS2, no changes to the smoothing/lag area, TPS Vref powering the TPS, Crank and speedo sensors as I was told to do by other MS users. Grounded on the firewall with all my other sensor grounds. Right now I think my AE settings are 100% TPS based. Just checked the smoothing factors and they are all 50%, default settings.

Just got in my car and hooked up my laptop and it got worse. Calibrated while not running, started it up and moved to -2% (figured because of the vacuum). Calibrated again, goes to 4% while on the throttle stop. Time for a new TPS? I could take on off my Avenger to try it out...

Give it a shot. Also, try using the smoothing/lag features as well. They work.

Well I have to thank all of you because I took everyones advice and rolled it into one and now I have an almost perfectly stable TPS. It twitches to 1% every once in a few minutes but its way more stable. I ended up relocating the ground and using the smoothing factor on it. The only problem I have now is the spring on the butterfly of my MP60 is a little weak so sometimes when I let off the throttle real easy it sticks just above closed making it idle hunt and surge. Ill work on that tomorow.
