I've found it will seriously fuck your world. Not only did I have to walk like 3 or 4 miles home last night after changing some settings, it also seems to corrupt some of the values in the MS memory. Each time I write anything to the MS from Megatune with the usb adapter the car would run worse and worse each time. After writeing the settings from my desktop PC at home it would be fine. So even if it seems like it's working, it's probably not. Look into one of these:

Edit: Looks like they are about $55 on ebay, no too bad I guess but that's a single. I can use the USB adapter for my WBO2 I guess.

Let me know how the pcmcia one works, that's the only serial imput that I have on my laptop...

Damnit, just another thing to buy :( Prob should have bought an older laptop instead of the new one haha. Anyone use a Belkin usb-db9 adapter on the MS? That's what I use for the 034, and worked pefect..

Yes, please let use know how that works out. I'm in the same boat, my laptop only has USB ports.

PCMCIA is just Hot-plugable PCI, it will work for sure. :thumbsup

You can give it a shot, it won't hurt anything but it could leave you stranded. ;) Mine worked with the 034eic, and the MSD Dis2 just fine. It's some kind of Megasquirt issue, Serial connections are very strange when it comes to timing and flow control.

Ok, I'm retarted. It was an actual code issue and the fix is out, I just talked to Lee. Glad I didn't order that pc card yet heh.

An interesting thing to note is another tuning program, called Megatunix, works just fine with usb-rs232 converters.

Also, etx's problems may have been caused by something else.

etx... did you try changing some of the comm's settings in the msns-extra.ini file?

Do they make a cat5 to serial? Would that work? Im in the same boat, I have a brand new laptop and am sure that my luck will be bad. If I did not have bad luck I would have no luck at all....:(

Well I think I am going to go the card route. Found this on ebay, although it is only a single cord connector unlike the duel. 54 + 9 is only marginally more than the compusa adapter recomended on the MS forums.

My only worry would be the product drivers etc...

I'm still having issues with the USB -> serial adapter with the MSNS-e 022i6 code and megatune. I haven't tried anything other than megatune, but it corrupting the MS memory every time I do it. I would just advise everyone not to use the usb to serial converters.

I was wondering if anyone has used the PCMCIA card adapter yet? If you have how is it working? Any problems?

Avoid the startech brand. I can't even get it to communicate with my techedge. Ignore the price on the site its wrong. I only paid 50$ shipped for that sucker.

I'm using a USB port replicator with success on my Dell laptop. It doesn't really like to load new code into the processor though. But for tuning and viewing in MT, it works just fine. I just use my desktop for loading code.

interesting. I unfortunatally have a HP laptop (love the laptop for school/work not so much for the MS).I just bought the belkin usb to serial for 30$. It seems to communicate with the MS ok. I have yet to even try to get it to load data or retrieve data from it though. All I know now is it does hook up to the com port and the MS see's the pc and vice versa.

just an update here, since I got the squirt working, i have been using the belkin adapter and I have not had any problems at all.
